Out of curiosity, I used Google maps to measure how far the purported fishing spot was from where I grew up (and my folks still live). It’s like 2,500’ as the crow files. It seemed **so far** as a kid… ---

It’s 3 miles from my house. I knew they stocked trout, but I had no idea there were any smallmouth bass there. I tried fishing above the dam when the boys were little and couldn’t hook anything; probably a bunch of three inch sunfish nibbling. ---

I went there today with my wife, we didn’t see any fish, but it’s definitely the same spot. I took a couple of pictures of the bridge, but I don’t have any way to post them. ---

I think it’s cool that you found this with the help of the 'dope. Brings back childhood memories. My friend Jeff and I used to explore the inside of the dam upstream - we found an enormous snapping turtle in the darkness one time. I guess someone must have decided it was too dangerous, since the last time I saw it, it had a locked gate across the entrance. ---

I’m bumping this old thread to let you know that I’ve fished it a few weekends in a row and had some success. I’ve caught stocked trout, bluegill, chubs and seen some bass, but they’re not buying what I’m selling. It’s great to have a spot to go within 30 minutes of my house when I don’t have time to fish more than an hour or two on the weekend. Thanks again for everyone’s help. ---

Is there even enough room to try and catch a bass on, say, a popper? If I wanted to be no sporting and use minnows I wouldn’t know where to get them. So there really are Smallmouths in there? I guess if trout can survive there they can too. ---
