I asked “How does history change if the Federales were free to do whatever they wanted?” You answered “History doesn’t change at all.”
I have no idea why you think there’s no connection at all.

Is it that you don’t know the Supremacy Clause has been in there all along?
Because any attempt at insurrection in the past has been effectively shut down by the Federales, including a big one in 1865. If the US was going to become a dictatorship, the second amendment wouldn’t have stopped it. Its not as if a dictatorial regime that violates every other portion of the constitution is going to suddenly decide to honor one particular piece.
The main problem is that whenever someone suggests that perhaps mentally disabled persons shouldn’t be allowed to purchase, the NRA and their supporters hear that as “We’re coming for you guns!”
How do you know this? Does the lead up the the Civil War remain exactly the same if the South enjoys wide-spread gun ownership?
The South before the Civil War, or the white South, at least, did enjoy wide-spread gun ownership.
And for the same reason as today - fear of non-whites. At least theirs was reasonable then.
And it certainly is not as if a bunch of yahoos yelling “Wolverines!” is going to defeat a “well-regulated” military force. That’s why the sainted Founders established one.
