O.K. people, I would like some popular opinion on this. I’m just restarting a punk group after a year off (Um… artistic differences). It’s a new lineup, so I can’t use the old band name which we accidently copyrighted when we had a friend tape one of our shows. He had some contract with Columbia pictures as some kind of B.S. talent agent, so anythign he filmed was under copyright of some blah blah blah… If I see the guy i’m gonna kick his ass. But I digress. The old name was ‘the Repellants’, but now I need a new one. I have some I’d like to throw out there that we (the band) like, we just can’t decide on it… Possible new names: the Destructos! Three Pump Chump, 56 Chairs, and the Hoosier Daddies. What do you think? Or do you have one you’d like to throw out there? punk snot dead, broccoli! P.S. drummer wanted - We’re in Tampa ---

The funny thing is that I am in Tampa as well and was about to post the same thing! We need a name for our punk band too. I thought maybe I beat myself to posting but that can’t be because I am a drummer and you need a drummer. Anyway, we just played our first show at brass mug last thursday and when we got our pay from the door it was addressed to “the no name band”. A sad state of affairs when you play shows without a name. I will give you some of our rejects; Gamblor Ruining peoples lives with your penis goddamn and the door slams Hope these help. Also, we are playing on December 2nd at the punk house with Timversion and two bands from gainsville if you can make it. Email me and maybe I can come check you guys out too. ---

I saw a sign a few days ago: “Grooved Concrete Ahead”. Right away I thought, “Whoa, ‘Grooved Concrete’…what a perfect name for a band!” Please use it, it’s too cool to not be a band name. ---

I went to hear Jello Biafra speak when I was in college (oh, about 13 years ago), and one of his topics/gripes was that people were constantly asking him for ideas for band names. His view was that coming up with a band name was the easy part, and if you couldn’t do that you were in trouble. He then spent about ten minutes rattling off a variety of potential names of punk bands. (He also said that if he ever started a heavy metal band he wanted to name it “Mondale”. 🆒 ) Anyway, here’s a few suggestions (from me, not Jello) for you to consider or ignore (I’m not aware of any groups using them): The Sock Monkey Clan (as per a different SDMB thread) The Crankbiters Stinky Pinky Canniballoons Puck Pippa Smack Murgatroyd The Danglers The Hyperdermics Bug Pushers Squidlips Thrash Compactors Eat Me Raw Y2Killers Spank Hey, now all I need is a band… 😉 jr8 “yes, you have my permission to use any of the above without charge” ---

O.K. peoples, here’s the most recent update… We are currently choosing between a few names: the Danglers, Three Pump Chump, Popular Opinion, and the Destructos! BTW - I loved the knocked-up chads, but it’s a wee bit too political for us. Thank you all for the ideas, they might make good song titles/ideas (I’ll give you credit for the idea if we ever get a damn drumer and release anything) Anyone who knows a drummer in the Tampa/St. Pete area please tell me! The Scumpuppies – there’s probably at least a half dozen of these, I betcha. Puck Funk – that’ll get old _real_ quick. Anything involving the word “suck” – that’s just so '80’s. The Meatles – people will think you’re some kind of twisted tribute band. This Band Bites! – delightfully postmodern, but never give your critics an easy target. I Was Lawrence Welk’s Love Slave – a good name, but too long. Save it for your first album. The Mondales – Jello Biafra will sue your ass… jr8 ---
