Help me catch/kill a rat!

Yes, definitely ask your landlord. He has an investment to protect, and I’m sure he doesn’t want rats in your house any more than you like living with them. He definitely should want to take care of you.

What professional would you call? I have Orkin coming to our house, yet we have rodent problems. They do nothing to help it. they set traps, thats it. They never once walked the property to see where they are coming in at. They are under our dishwasher, they are under the cabinets, in the vents or on the vents, who knows. Last night one was on the counter, eating out of a bowl of rice by the sink. The other day one was caught on a glue trap behind the stove, my hubby did now know that and walked right beside it, and it lunged at him screaming. I could hear that horrible screaming upstairs! ugh…awful. He had to try to kill this thing without being bit, it was very bold, and that worries me. only his butt was on the trap.
We have dogs, they never move when we hear them scurrying around. I had considered calling a professional because I cannot stand this problem anymore, but who do you call? and what will they do? We blocked off the areas we saw yesterday from the outside. Crossing my fingers that will help, too bad it seems we trapped one inside. I heard him this afternoon-we never hear them in the afternoon. I plan to boobie trap the kitchen tonight, and try to catch that disgusting thing. Hoping that is the only one trapped in here. He must be ticked that we trapped him in here! They have really reeked havok on my dishwasher. They chewed a hole in the one part, which caused a major water issue thru my kitchen floor into the basement, they also chewed a hole in a piece of plastic piping under the sink, more water damage. I noticed today more of the dishwasher is eaten. ugh…I am so sick of them. so sick. One day they did eat banannas off my counter.
crossing my fingers and praying this ends tonight…

We have bought and set every kind of trap and only killed one. The sticky trap got one, and they managed to get off by running it up against a cupboard for leverage. We leave no food out, no dog food or water, and aren’t catching them. Vector control came out and gave some suggestions but didn’t search for holes outside the home. We are almost ready to use poison behind fridge or behind dishwasher but don’t want to have issues with our dogs or dead rat smells. We think they are trapped in our house after having drywall repaired from the garage. Not sure they have a way out, at least that we can tell. I’m so disgusted by this!!!

The solution is:

JACK RUSSELL

(and no, not that bloke who sang with Great White)

Well, if none of your own dogs are hunting-prone, maybe a cat? Borrow a terrier or Dachshund from someone?

Glue traps need to be secured for rats. Find a spot where you can tack them down with nails or screws so that the rat doesn’t just drag them away.

I have a rat that’s been living in my house (under my stove) for the past 4months or so, my real-estate will not help me with getting rid of them, and i have no idea on how to get rid of it!!! ive only seen one, but i hear them in my walls and ceiling…
whats a safe way to get rid of them? we cant find any holes anywhere, so thinking that they are getting in through the roof  it worries me as i have 3 children to consider, 2months,4yrs,6yrs. So i need a solution. (doesn’t help that i have a massive phobia of rats/mice!!!)
The only “Hole” that my partner can find is under the stove…but we can not get under there as our stove is built into the wall! He comes out from under the stove and runs around the kitchen looking for food, he wont come out of the kitchen, he just goes from kitchen to wash-house which is pretty much in the same area, but he wont come into the hall way. We have tried rat traps but thats dont NOTHING i dont want to use poison because of my children (and i have 5children that come over daily also) we dont leave food out, except bread (which now after reading this post i will now be putting in my fridge!! lol )

I live in New Zealand so im not sure on what can be available for us here, also can not afford a professional…ive rung up to get quotes and it was way pricey!!! and they told me that they will only put down some bait, leave it for 4weks, come back and change the bait, wait another 4weeks, and then come back again ect ect but i can not wait that long!! HOW CAN I CATCH IT?? better yet how can i get my PARTNER to catch it!! lol the moment you go near it, it runs straight back under the stove again!! arghhh i want this rodent GONE!! NOW!!

Borrow/adopt a cat or a terrier?

Rodents do not like Peppermint , get some x tract and through it around, plant it out side, if you use a trap I used cheese then put a match to it a bit for smell.I know a fella who does this for a living and he uses Sardines ,You need to clean up the rat poo. the dust off it is deadly.I.ve used a vacuum

Their is a way to make the snap trap work, place a 2X4 at night from your sink to your stove or where ever you can creat a rail, put the trap on top of the rail, don’t ask me why it works but when I did that I caught all my rats in a matter of a few hours and their was a lot more than I thought. When the trap snaps they fall off the rail so maybe put a trash can underneath it.

Indian3478, Did your friend use the sardines for bait or to deter them? Thanks
