Remember [Sniglets](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sniglet), which are “words or phrases that don’t appear in the dictionary, but should”? I need one, for this situation (which wasn’t possible back in the 80’s when Sniglets became a thing): Seasons 1, 2, and 3 of _Awesome TV Series_ are out on DVD/ available On-Demand/ available for streaming on Hulu/Netflix, etc. Season 5 of _Awesome TV Series_ begins April 4th. What can we say about the situation describing Season 4? “DVD Purgatory” is the best I’ve been able to come up with, but surely there’s something better. What say you, Straight Dopers? ---

Awaiting home release? Coming soon to DVD? Don’t most TV series have their previous seasons available before the new one starts airing? (Sometimes being released the \*same \*week.) Or are you describing something in which Season 4 will \*never \*be released for some reason? ---

No I’m describing the situation in which Season 4 won’t be available until a period of time after Season 5 has begun airing. It’s happened. ---

I would call it a season gap, as in “I wanted to catch up on the series before the new season began, but there’s currently a [one] season gap in availability.” ---
