# Help me develop "weird" ice cream recipes

I know they’ve made fish ice cream on Iron Chef more than once. But that makes me think of some kind of peanut satay ice cream, and also a sweet teriyaki flavor.

They’ve made _fish sperm_ ice cream on Iron Chef. Fukui-san rather euphemistically called it “male roe”. IIRC, the bimbo-du-jour was reluctant to taste it.

I’ve had jalapeno ice cream. It was horrible.
I’ve had commercial carrot ice cream. (Hershey’s used to make it.) I didn’t like it.
I’ve made corn ice cream. It was bad.
I’ve made tea ice cream. It was pretty good.
I’ve made soda-flavored ice creams. The key is to use soda syrup not actual soda. Root beer ice cream is very good. I also made something called Colorado ice cream once which was flavored with cola syrup and creme de cacao liquor.
I’ve made other alcohol flavored ice creams. Bailey’s Irish Cream is very good. So is amaretto. I also once made some ice cream with pear brandy and walnuts that came out very well. The alcohol can make it trickey however as it inhibits the freezing.
I have thought about trying shrimp cocktail ice cream. A tomato flavored base with little shrimps and flakes of horseradish mixed in.

I made “Almond Joy” ice cream once. Coconut ice cream with dark chocolate pieces and almonds mixed in.
Other unusual flavors I’ve made: apple pie, blueberry, butterscotch, cheesecake, egg nog, grape, peppermint lifesaver, plum, pumpkin, watermelon, wintergreen, and no flavor.

I wouldn’t necessarily call this a “weird” ice cream flavor because it’s occasionally for sale commercially but what about “hot” cinnamon candy? I’ve had this kind once and really liked the combination of of the fiery hot cinnamon and cold smoothness of the ice cream. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen it sold anywhere recently.
Also, I haven’t made ice cream in awhile but I remember that when you have liquid flavoring, you usually add it just before you begin the freezing process so it will be thoroughly mixed in by the time your ice cream solidifies.

Some ice cream company (Hagen Dasz, I think) used to make Bailey’s Irish Cream ice cream. It was heaven.

Make some regular vanilla ice cream, then drizzle some Grand Marnier over it.
Chambord works for this as well, as does Frangelico.

I remember having black licorice ice cream when I was a kid (many, many years ago). IIRC, it was white not black but tasted like licorice. I remember liking it but you know that kids will eat most everything.

Believe it or not, some good vanilla ice cream (Breyer’s, etc) with Manichewitz wine drizzled over it is really yummy as well!

I had an amazing savory Parmesan cheese ice cream in Italy. They served it with pears and balsamic vinegar.
A gelato place in Berkeley has some really interesting flavors, like the wine mentioned above, beer, and one called “Extra Vergine”–I tried it and it was exactly what you would think: olive oil flavored ice cream. Yes, it was sweet, and actually really quite good.

When I was a kid a place I went had a flavor called Tigger Tigger. It was peanut butter flavored with veins of black licorice. I loved it. When I was a kid.
I think my next batch will be wasabi. I’m just not sure how much to add.

I remember an ice cream pie that had oreo cookie crust and peppermint ice cream. It was bright pink and decorated with brachs hard, swirly peppermint candies. I loved it.

Place in Oxford did Marmite ice cream at one time … it wasn’t a big seller, though.

IIRC, it was sea urchin roe. Didn’t someone once make a squid ink ice cream once on that show, too?

Hmm. This just struck me over lunch. What about something along the lines of an ice cream with smoked salmon bits, but with a slight cream cheese texture–just slightly, you understand–served in small portions?

Coldstone Creamery sells a sweet cream flavor, which I guess would be no flavor added.
I suggest menudo for a very weird flavor ice cream. Spicy ice cream with hominy and tripe chunks! Yum!
