Help me expand our animation and comix section

Yes! We have it on VHS and I’ve ordered a DVD.

Hell, almost forgot…The Brave Little Toaster. (I swear you can see the design similarities between this, Iron Giant, and The Incredibles.)

thanks, all good suggestions. We have some, and I’ve added the others to my list.

Futurama isn’t children’s animation by any means, and there are only four DVD sets, so it’s not like The Simpsons that are at 9 or 10 already, and might go to like 20.
The Venture Brothers is AMAZING, and currently only season 1 is out.

I hate to point out obvious non-Anime adult animation but how about DVD collections of:

The Simpsons
Family Guy
Futurama
Southpark
Aqua Teen Hunger Force (I personally don’t get this shit but whatever)
Ren & Stimpy
Beavis & Butthead
and some less obvious Peter Chung stuff:
Aeon Flux (animated series, not the Charlize Theron crapathon)
Reign: The Conquerer
The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury

oh yeah…and:

The Animatrix

(FTR, we have a huge children’s animation section; I’m looking for more adult oriented suggestions, up to say NC17 but no outright porn.)

Gots.

Those are all Japanese. There’s not a lot of non-Japanese animation in the world that is for adults. Though there’s some series like Gargoyles, Batman, etc. that would still be appreciated by adults. (And of course there’s the Simpsons, Beavis and Butthead, etc.)

You could get some of Bakshi’s stuff. Wizards and the Lord of the Rings are both fine. And… Eh…

There’s a claymation film called The Adventures of Mark Twain that I haven’t seen that some Dopers were raving about. I think it’s a kids film though.

I see some people mentioned The Secret of NIMH, so I would also recommend All Dogs go to Heaven and An American Tale.

Yeah, I’m contemplating moving Simpsons, Beavis&c, Southpark, etc., from the TV section to the Non-Children’s Animation section, to A) fill the section out, and B) to get those renters to browse the other animation.

If you want stuff that’s not Japanese, you could check out the works of Jan Švankmajer. I think all the movies are out on DVD, and a collection of his shorts (film not underwear) came out last year. For more stop motion stuff, there’s also the Brothers Quay - the shorts are excellent, the movie Institute Benjamenta isn’t much cop (IMHO).

Unless I’ve missed it, I don’t think anyone has recommended this one yet:
Fantastic Planet
Somewhat of a classic in France.

Yes, since I’ve been here we’ve amassed a pretty impressive Jan Švankmajer section; I may move that to this section as well. I’ll see what Quay stuff I can find.

Unfortunately not available through our distributor; I have to convince my boss to give me a budget to spend through other sources.

Oh yeah there’s the stop-motion Alice in Wonderland thing eh… goes Googling

This. I can’t admit to liking it, but the artsy crowd might.

Edit: Ah, which I now see has already been linked to… :smack:
