Help me find a board game for my wife and I.

Are you looking for games that max out at two players or games that play more (but are Ok with two)?

There is a special 2 player version of Agricola that eliminates feeding (and other farm chores) and concentrates on animal husbandry.

Suburbia plays 2-4 (there may be a solo version).

Targiwill soon be out in the US (two player only)

This is the game my grilfriend and I play whenever its the two of us and other options are off the table… a cup of coffee and a crib marathon in the living room for hours.

I’m looking for games that can be played with two or more people.

She’s not even sure why she likes Dominion so much.

How does the Tabletop series compare to the “Shut up and Sit Down” series? I like the shut up and sit down guys when I have the patience to watch a half-hour game review, but frequently I don’t have that.

There’s a great German boardgame, “Igel Ärgern”. The name is wordplay that doesn’t translate well into English (so I’ve heard) but it’s usually referred to as “Hedgehogs in a Hurry”. It’s a simple game where you throw dice and move your pieces down a track trying to be the first to bear off 3 of your 4 pieces. Along the way you may have to move opponents’ pieces rather than yours (you might even choose to do so at times), and a piece can get caught in a pit where it has to wait for everyone else to catch up. Your pieces can get buried under a stack of other pieces and be unable to move.

Even though dice are used, it’s not purely luck and a lot of strategy is involved. It’s a lot of fun and everyone I’ve played it with really liked it. The nice thing is that you can have anywhere from 2 to 6 players, so you and your wife can play and you can also play with friends.

It’s difficult to get in the US, but if you Google it or check places like eBay you can sometimes find one.

I will n+1 Ticket to Ride (there’re are different maps with slightly different rules)
Saint Petersburg used to be our groups most played game. Better with poker chips instead of paper money.

Roll through the Ages is a good short game.

TransAmerica went well with my family.

Tabletop isn’t a review show, you watch people play the game.

Ummm. Cards Against Humanity?

Apples to Apples really needs at least 4 players to be any fun.

I think he’s looking for 2 player games.

I know I didn’t elaborate any more, but the games I listed above really are great and are designed for two players. I bet you guys would love 'em.

He’s looking for two players OR MORE.

I cannot answer that, as I have not seen the series.

For what it’s worth, the Tabletop series actually shows a game session being played by Wheaton and guests. (I’ve seen reviews where the host is just blabbing a monologue, which is less engaging.)

There’s Grammar Nazis, in which you learn when to say “my wife and I” and when “my wife and me”.

I see what you did there.

Well, Board Game Geek listed Dominion, last I looked, as the 14th best game of all time, so she’s hardly alone.

If you’re looking for other games, I like Puerto Rico a lot (usually hovering around #4 all-time on boardgamegeek), although it’s really better with 3-5 players.

My wife and I play Innovation, Mr. Jack in New York, and Carcasonne on a regular basis. I’m into fiddley and intense games (Battlestar Galactica, Eclipse, Power Grid), while she’s more into light and quick to learn games. Those three seem to have hit a sweet spot for us. She disliked Glory to Rome, and Lost Cities.

tips hat politely

Also consider 7 Wonders, an ancient-civilisation-themed game with a nice balance of strategy and luck - and your strategy will change from game to game according to which country you are, who your neighbours are, and how the early turns go. Besides, it’s quite pretty to look at.

I am big board game fan and play with my wife boardgames several years now. We have several hundreds board games at home so I knew quite a bunch of them.

Even I love Agricola very much I would not recommend it to people who are new to boardgames. The rules are not well written, there is a lot of stuff to sort out and the chances are very high that You won´t play the game at all.

I highly recommend Targi even if it is only a two player game it is a must buy. My wife and I play this very often and both enjoy it very much.

Another game that I can recommend very much is Stone Age, play well with 2 to 4 players.

I recommend Twilight Struggle.

That’s definitely on my “to buy” but the wife won’t like that game.

Last Night on Earth plays pretty well with 2 people.
