Can’t remember the title of this book, and I’m hoping that somebody can help me identify it from the scant details I remember. I probably read it around the age of 10 or 11. It takes place in the UK, where a young boy is sent to live with his grandfather somehwhere on the coast of the North Sea. The grandfather is a crusty old sea captain who is always drinking grog. The kid has a great time in the grandfather’s old house and with his colorful friends. That’s all I rememeber, except that it was a yellow hardcover 🙂 and was a considerably longer book than any I’d read at that age. It might also have been part of a series, but I’m not sure about that.

Any ideas? I’d like to find it to share with my kids, and would be eternally grateful if anybody can provide a lead.

1978 or 1979. No idea how new the book was at that time.

Sorry, I can’t help with the book itself, but I would like to suggest a possible solution if no one else can help.

Check out the “Stump the Bookseller” section of Loganberry Books [here.](http://loganberrybooks.com/stump.html)

For a $2 fee, they post your request on their site and people answer if they remember the book given what you tell them about it. (I already searched the site to see if anyone had given a request close to yours.)

Dopers are pretty good at this, but if nobody here remembers it, it’s good to get other people involved. (And that site is particularly good with children’s books.)

I was just getting ready to recommend Loganberry, then I saw that I had been beat to it. That’s a great site, my sister and I have used it three times and always ended up getting an answer. I even solved a stumper once.
