The website is great, actually, because it functions as the person you ask relevant questions, like the mother of the bride, except it’s all in one place and easy to access. We have hotel info, the registrations, a pitch for gift money for a new couch, with pictures of our horror show of a couch and a link to the one we want, as well as a general FAQ. We’ll be hear waiting to hear about them! I wish I had been on the Dope when I was planning my wedding! What fun it would have been to rant about the co-worker who asked me \*every single day \*if I’d gotten my engagement ring yet! ---

Did you not do an engagement ring, too? We’re doing tungsten wedding rings (thanks, Straight Dope, for that idea) but there are too many things about an engagement ring that I can’t justify, first and foremost the expense, but I am resisting the social aspect of it, too. That it feels like a measure of how much a man values me\*. Deep in the girliest parts of me I do desire a big sparkly diamond, though. But I also desire fancy designer shoes and handbags- purely socialized stuff that I’m not sure if the real me wants or not. I’m sure I’ll have more rants! Right now everything feels pretty sane, though. We’ll see how long that lasts! 🙂 \*I’m sure that other people have different sentiments attached to their engagement rings and I’m not judging those feelings. It’s just the way I feel about it. ---

Wedding favors are entirely optional. I only like edible wedding favors, or bottles of bubble solution to blow bubbles at the bride and groom (instead of throwing rice or birdseed). Anything that I can take home and keep I would feel obligated to keep, and it just contributes to the clutter in my house. My house has enough clutter as it is. I know I’m not the only person who thinks this about wedding favors, either. I didn’t do favors at my wedding, and nobody seemed to have a problem with that. I did an engagement ring, but not a diamond, and not a solitaire. I definitely didn’t want anything that people could look at and size up our economic status from.
