The Wire certainly comes to mind, as does Madmen. I hear Jericho is very good, but have not watched it myself. One thing that I _have_ watched and have enjoyed thoroughly is **Boardwalk Empire**. Set in Atlantic City, NJ, it starts on the eve of prohibition and shows in detail how city treasurer Nucky Thompson (played by the awesome Steve Buscemi) builds and defends his empire of booze, women, and gambling. Very entertaining and comes highly recommended. Also features Kelly McDonald, of Trainspotting and No Country for Old Men fame. ---

This still pisses me off. I’d heard talk of a two-hour _Deadwood_ movie in the works that would have tied up loose ends. But that was a long time ago, and nothing seems to have come of it after all. ---

The wife and I just finished watching season 4 of _Breaking Bad_. An excellent series. And I see a season 5 will be filmed this year. We get a little fed up with Walter’s obstinance from time to time. And curiously, men sitting in parked cars in residential neighborhoods seem to go largely unnoticed by the residents. Now it’s back to _Monk_. ---

I know it’s been mentioned here but since the thread popped up again and I literally just finished watching it, I’ll recommend Firefly. Literally, as in finished it last night and I’m watching the movie as I type this. I’ve never been a sci-fi person. Never seen Star Trek or BSG and never seen anything by Joss Whedon so I wasn’t really sure what to expect going in. But as I read somewhere it’s more of a “Space Western”…and it is. They spend a lot of time on the space ship, just as much time in regular ol’ gunfights, herding animals, riding horses etc. Not a lot of tech speak, no complicated plot lines, no long story arcs to pay attention to, a lot of humor interjected into it and overall, it’s very easy to watch. On top of that, the big selling point for me, it’s only 14 episodes so it’s not a huge commitment. Even if you’re only ‘meh’ about it (most people aren’t ‘meh’ about it though) you can still finish the series relatively quickly and not wonder if you should give up or keep with it. ---

We just watched the first season of the wonderful British comedy _Peep Show_. I think there are seven seasons – or series, as the Brits say – with new seasons eight and nine recently signed. Longest-running show in BBC 4 history, I’ve heard. Of course, being a British show, there are only six episodes per season. We’ll be watching more of the seasons for sure. ---

Another vote for “The Wire,” the all-time number one drama series. Also “Deadwood” and if 3 seasons is ok, “Boston Legal.” “Picket Fences” was great but I think only one season is available.
