This was a tv series that was canceled almost immediately. I think there was only one episode as a matter of fact. Here’s what I remember.

A doctor makes a formula that makes you stop aging. After everyone in the world has taken it, about half of the people who have taken it turn into mutant cave people. The remaining civilized population all have crystals in their chests. The color of the crystal determines who you’re allowed to make babies with. If you breed with someone of the wrong crystal color, you risk giving birth to a mutant cave person.

Anyone know what I’m talking about?

You’re thinking of [Island City](http://akas.imdb.com/title/tt0110163%22/). Eric McCormack (Will Truman) played one of the “recessives”.

I know exactly the one you mean, but damned if I can remember the name; I think it was a pilot, not a short-lived show, and there were **so** many apocalyptic-future pilots in the 70s. I remember the guy who was half-mutant (mother had survived being raped), was the team muscle and had the only Black gene rating. Also, the teenage boy who was freaked because his mother looked like a hot 20, despite being at least 25 years older than him.

That _might_ be it; the link doesn’t give me enough info to go on. I would have sworn it was longer ago than 1994.

There is more info in the IMDB user comments.

> It takes place in the future after a youth drug goes wrong. The youth drug was suppose to be a fountain of youth, but for most people it mutated them into violent creatures. Now the remaining people who have not been affected by the drug live in a secured city were they are trying to find a cure for the mutation. The city is pretty advanced with a force field protecting it, teleportation via telephone and a pretty advanced tracking system. Also everyone who lives there have a crystal implant that lets everyone know who is genetically compatible, so as not to breed any more mutants.
>
> They characters are pretty good too, there is Greg 23 who is a clone and has like 30 siblings that all look like him and every one of them has some sort of flaw. Then there is Lt. Mindy who is half rec (mutant) he is pretty much human with the exception that his features are strong and angular and he is very strong. Pretty much most of the characters are likable it is a very good sci-fi and a movie you can watch several time and still enjoy.

Sounds like \*\*alphaboi867 \*\*got a touchdown to me. 🙂

Link behaving badly. [Link.](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110163/)

Never mind! Putzed around with link so long, it was irrelevant by the time I’d finished.
