Well, I was listening to Leadbelly the other day and “Jump Down turn around (pick a bale of cotton)” brought back vague memories of being made to watch a movie in English class about a woman cotton farmer, and especially memories of graphic scenes of of people’s hands being pricked as they picked cotton.

Actually, it was an OK movie, I just have no idea what it was called, or, indeed, what the plot was.

Anyone got any ideas?

This is bugging me.

Was it the movie [Places in the Heart](http://imdb.com/title/tt0087921/)?

It starred Sally Field as a widow trying to save her cotton farm. John Malkovich also played a memorable role as a blind man.

There’s a scene like that in _Gone With The Wind_ after the war.

At your service.

Great movie all around, I’ve seen it a few times at least.
