# Help me identify this Sci Fi book

I read it a few years back, and I want to buy a copy for someone, hell I’d like to read it again myself, but can’t remember the name.
The basic plot has a scientist accidentally releasing some form of Black hole into the earth. It’s later discovered that he may not have done it all and it may have been an alien attact or contact. Something goofy also occurs wiht the World wide Web, and appears to take a mind of it’s own. The book is peppered with newnet groups commenting on the interesting events. This sound familiar to anyone?

_Earth_ by David Brin.
I read it and found it to be a great cure for insomnia.

That’s it, odd really as I usually avoid David Brin. Someone most have given it to me.
