I have all my music copied to a 64GB USB drive that plugs into a USB port in the centre console storage bin. Its safe from accidental knocks and just stays there unless I want to add any new files. The car media system automatically switches to USB input when I plug it in. A 2015 Chevy Cruze with the standard GM system, so nothing fancy. Your audio system may have a menu with options for how to play the music - I normally put mine on random play.
