Alfred Hitchcock Presents and Tales of the Unexpected should qualify too.
The other day, on a similar topic/thread, I posted this and then forgot to submit it
Too much like that Nimoy series, perhaps.
*Coast to Coast AM *belongs on the list.
(Art is returning to the airwaves next week!)
“Tonight’s movie: ‘Amazon Women of the Moon.’”
I love the (squeaky) wheels on “Nessie.”
Arthur C. Clarke’s Mysterious World
Arthur C. Clarke’s Mysterious World of Strange Powers
Arthur C. Clarke’s Mysterious Universe
Those TV series skeptically presented various phenomena that were believed by the general public people to be unexplained at the time. Evidence against or even disproving the phenomena was included.
Clarke was the host and closed the episode with his own judgement of the validity of the subject.
Tales of Tomorrow was a TV series that presented chilling science fiction stories.
Dimension X, the predecessor of X Minus One. Available at archive.org.
Sleep No More, a short-lived radio series composed of odd stories or classic horror stories (usually abridged, unfortunately) read by Nelson Olmstead. He was pretty good, too. Also available at archive.org.
Other radio shows that sometimes included science fiction were Suspense, Escape and The Mysterious Traveler.
It was both a radio series and a TV series (the latter beginning in 1949).
Three, actually.
There were at least two (edit: four, actually, including an animated version; six if you count Filipino TV) televised versions of Ripley’s Believe It Or Not!
Weird U.S., spun off of the “Weird NJ” magazine.
BTW, The theme music for Sleep No More was a piece for unaccompanied clarinet by Igor Stravinsky! It’s the weirdest theme I’ve ever heard.
Strange Paradise
“Gilligan’s Island” was pretty damn strange if you think about it.
The Outer Limits (the original B-and-W version, not the newer re-boot)
The opening sequence is still hard to match for any TV program, even now: The Outer Limits - 1963 Seasons - Intro - HD - YouTube
Weird, offensive, stupid, mind-boggling, satirical, and
hilarious:
Lexx
Gigantic dragonfly planet-eating ship hijacked by a walking dead man, a security guard, and a sex slave.
Food Party. The weirdest damn show I’ve ever seen. Love it.
It depends on what you consider “weird”, but I present:
Cop Rock (the link takes you to a scene on YouTube that really sums up the show).
Adventure Time
Thanks, folks! Some excellent memory jogging shows being listed here.
What should we do with this information? A poll perhaps?
Is there some comprehensive listing somewhere else on the web?
Do any of you get involved with Old Time Radio or similar Wayback Machine knockoffs?
Ghoulardi, whom I only know of due to a webcomic.
