Our cats were Tiger, Random and Turbulence, the which names I’ve always liked. Our cousin’s cat’s name is Squish. And one of my all-time favourite cat names was ‘Mr. Underfoot’, from one of the Robert Heinlein books. (I don’t remember which one, it might have been ‘Friday’ - I also don’t remember liking it very much, if that’s of any help…) A technique we used with Turbulence was to write a bunch of potential names on bits of paper and then crumple them up. The first one that she swatted down from the seat of a chair was the one she had picked. We missed out on ‘Procella’ that way (Italian word for ‘shit storm’ or ‘massacre’). Pictures would help. ---

I’ve always thought that Hepzibah is a fantastic name for a cat – enough that I named one of my first cats that. She’s a cranky white Siamese and probably not much longer for this world, being about sixteen years old, so perhaps if your little beastie is a girl she can carry it on! ---

Stop the presses. The OP has an 8-week old kitten … and it has “a _very_ playful personality.” Woah. That’s just too bizarre for words. Anyway, I’m of the firm belief that something can’t be named if it cannot be seen. The name often comes from the eyes, the face, the personality that comes through in a photo. That said, our (now 3-year-old) kitten came to us with a bad case of ringworm on her sweet little face. She very narrowly avoided being named Molly. Why? Because then she would have been [Molly Ringworm](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breakfast_Club). ---

I would think that Ding, Dinger or Dingy would be the normal nicknames for the mouthful Schrodinger. And all good names for a kitten - although when cat gets to be sit around the house looking too good for everyone, Dingy might be offensive to the cat. ---

If it’s a boy, you could name it Ash (from the Evil Dead movies). If it’s a girl, name it Xena. I had cats with both of these names, but they have since passed. ---
