# Help me pick my next audiobook

I’ll be finishing up with Pratchett’s _Moving Pictures_ (Discworld 10) in a couple of days, and I have several audiobooks in my queue. I will let you guys pick the next one I listen to. Here’s what I have:
Reaper Man: Discworld 11
Witches Abroad: Discworld 12
Small Gods: Discworld 13 (I like to listen to these in order, but it’s not strictly necessary.)
Atlas Shrugged - Ayn Rand
A Storm of Swords (Game of Thrones 3) - George RR Martin (I have books 4 and 5 also, but obviously won’t be reading them before this one.)
The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle - Arthur Conan Doyle
The Hunger Games - Suzanne Collins (Also have Catching Fire for afterwards)
Water for Elephants - Sara Gruen

Aside from the Discworld and the GoT books, the ones on the list are new types of books for me. The book I listened to before this last one was Roots. I’m trying to intersperse some classic literature and fine culture with my fun. Sometimes I want more of the same and sometimes I want something different. This time, I don’t know what I want, so I thought I would let the Dope decide.

In that case, I voted for “The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle” (I assume you got it when [Audible.com](http://Audible.com) was offering it free). It’s classic and fun, and short (a single story), so you can get a little variety and then, if you want, go back to some reliable entertainment you know you’ll enjoy.

IMHO (and that’s what you’re asking for, after all) Small Gods is one of the best novels ever. I have read it at least a dozen times, and listened to the audiobook several. The voice-acting by Nigel Planer\* is excellent.
- I’m assuming you have the unabridged edition.

I realized as I was downloading The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle to my device that it’s only 47 minutes long. That will do me for tomorrow.
