# Help me remember the 2-days ago joke

Just now, I remembered that I’d noticed a good joke here. But I remember almost nothing about the joke. :smack: Can anyone help? All I can tell you to go on is

[li] It seemed like an unusually good joke. My reaction was _That’s a good joke. Worth memorizing if you want to tell a joke someday._ It was shortish, perhaps three or 4 sentences, or two _very_ short paragraphs.[/li][li] It might have had a religious theme. Or not.[/li][li] It was posted here 1 to 5 days ago, probably 2 or 3.[/li][/ul]
This may seem like the most inane thread yet, and feel free to ask Mod to move us to the Pit so you can curse me, but … SDMB has given splendid search results in the past.

It wasn’t in a joke thread. I honestly cannot remember which Forum. The only reason I’m 97% sure it was SDMB is that none of my Facebook friends are that witty. It wasn’t snark, just a harmless brief joke injected IIRC, or it might have had a “moral message” relevant to the thread, if it was a joke based on religion or society.
I’m thinking it was very foolish to hope anyone’s memory would be jogged. Google Chrome remembers which threads I’ve clicked on; I could post that list. :dubious:

I get myself confused too often about where (or even when) I would have seen a joke on the internet (counting my email which has an abundance of joke-swapping) so I will need some clues about the joke you’re struggling with remembering.
Stuff like:
Setting
Number of characters
Was it one of those 3-step setup things like 98% of all jokes?
Was it a pun or shaggy dog situation?
Any good cussing?
NSFW or kiddie joke
Nun or Priest?
Little Moron
To quote Letterman’s sidekick/lover, “Did it have any monkeys?”

Sadly, even with that, you’ve narrowed it down to “all posts in all threads I’ve read in the last week that are fewer than 3 paragraphs or 5 sentences, whichever is greater, and that were at least plausibly funny.” That list is gonna be really really long.

As a backup, if you can’t find the original joke, maybe you can pretend it’s this one:
There once was a rich man who was near death. He was very grieved because he had worked so hard for his money and he wanted to be able to take it with him to heaven. So he began to pray that he might be able to take some of his wealth with him.
An angel hears his plea and appears to him. “Sorry, but you can’t take your wealth with you.” The man implores the angel to speak to God to see if He might bend the rules.
The man continues to pray that his wealth could follow him. The angel reappears and informs the man that God has decided to allow him to take one suitcase with him. Overjoyed, the man gathers his largest suitcase and fills it with pure gold bars and places it beside his bed.
Soon afterward the man dies and shows up at the Gates of Heaven to greet St. Peter. St. Peter seeing the suitcase says, “Hold on, you can’t bring that in here!”
But, the man explains to St. Peter that he has permission and asks him to verify his story with the Lord. Sure enough, St. Peter checks and comes back saying, “You’re right. You are allowed one carry-on bag, but I’m supposed to check its contents before letting it through.”
St. Peter opens the suitcase to inspect the worldly items that the man found too precious to leave behind and says: "Of all the things you could bring…you brought _pavement?!!!"_

This sounds to me like it just _might_ be the same joke I heard once back in my college days, or something very similar. It’s hard to tell for sure, though. Unfortunately, I can’t remember that either. If someone here could help me remember the joke I heard, maybe it will help our OP remember his.
