Help me solve this Hollywood Blind Item

I was thinking Alex and Emma.

Kate Hudson
Luke Wilson
Director: Rob Reiner

Wilson didn’t get his start from TV, and its hardly a perfect fit for other reasons.

He wasn’t what I think of as a bumbler, he was just not skilled at being a detective - he was still suave and sophisticated. Bumbler implies clumsy, awkward, dumb, Woody Harrellson.

Also because Kate Hudson is not busty.

What about Will Ferrell? He was only on SNL but he was definitely “incredibly successful” on that, and he’s a charming bumbler in most movies.
Though my vote is for Steve Carell with fat-slob-director being thrown in as a red herring. Oliver Stone and Kevin Smith are the only famous fat directors I can think of but they haven’t directed many billion dollar popcorn movies in the past decade.

Well, except the story in question is about the director, not the actor. The actor and actress are just there to narrow it down.

I say with 98.7% certainty that it’s Brett Ratner. OF course, it could just be all made up, but it’s at least a fictional Brett Ratner. After the Sunset matches the description, he knew Munn when she was just starting (as Lisa), and he’s, well, a douchebag.

I guess only Munn knows what she meant, but Steele in my mind fits the description perfectly. He was suave and sophisticated only superficially. Most if the time he was doing things like screwing things up because he was unaware of facts or procedure, overplaying his hand based on his overconfidence, simply failing to carry off a ruse and thus screwing up a plan, and very often getting found out and clocked. Sounds like the definition of charming bumbler, certainly more charming bumbler than Woody, who was more naive and dumb then either charming or bumbling.

I would have to say it sounds like Brett Ratner is the guy. I think that solves the mystery. BTW she also says the director forcibly dry humped the starlet in the story to show the lead actor the level of romance he wanted in the scene…

I see. I’d like to watch the show again sometime.

I don’t read this as an A-list actress. I read it as an A-list paparazzi magnet.

I’m resurrecting this older thread because we now have confirmation that it was indeed Brett Ratner and After the Sunset. Looks like Enalzi got it right!

Here is Brett at his douchiest (the part relevent to this discussion begins at about the 3:45 mark).

He’s the first name who popped into my mind when I read “slobby fat rich director”.

The mystery is at long last put to rest thanks to a quote of Ratner’s I was linked to via Daniel O’Brien at Cracked.com. The quote itself came from a lengthy essay describing the bloggers distinct hatred for one Brett Ratner

  • Brett Ratner.

Turns out that man is about as classy as child rape humor, and fully fits the description set forth here…what a bizarre and terrible personality.

This is also the same week he resigned from producing the Oscars after making his briefly famous “Rehearsal is for fags” comment. This has created a right wing blogger circle jerk calling Hollywood hypocritical for assaulting traditional values but unable to extend the same lenience to gays, but they don’t seem to grasp the “remember your audience” part. The old joke that “Oscars=Gay Super Bowl” has some merit and much to do with the resignation; it’d be kind of like somebody who’s doing a benefit for PETA admitting he likes going to bullfights.

He went on Howard Stern a few days ago and admitted he was making the whole thing up. He apparently never “banged” Olivia Munn.
