Help me suggest a book for my boss

Redwall and all the other books in the series (I think there are 18 in all). They are funny, sad, exciting, and uplifting all at once. All the books are about animals. Apparently, they’re supposed to be for kids but I didn’t even hear of them until I was 25. I fell in love with Brian Jacques’ style of writing and his characters even before I hit chapter 4 of Redwall. The audiobooks are excellent. I spent over a year trying to get my boyfriend to read Redwall. It took forcing him to listen to it in the car but I finally got him to admit that I was right. Actually, he stole my MP3 player because his isn’t compatible with Audible.com. In less than 2 months, he has listened to Redwall, Mossflower, and Mattimeo at least 3 times each (he has a long commute).

I think that everyone should at least give Redwall a try. I tend to read horror, scifi, mysteries, and some classics. I don’t usually go for animal stories. But, I’m forever grateful that my 15 year old cousin lent me the first 5 books. At some point, I may even give them back

Whenever somebody asks for science fiction recommendations, I always mention Robert Charles Wilson. Unlike Herbert or Tolkein, most of his works are set in the present world with ordinary characters. He then introduces some extraordinary circumstance and shows how people would realistically react.

As a specific recommendation, I’d go with Spin. It’s Wilson’s most recent book and it’s one of his best.
