Help! My Cat Will Not Shut Up!

Is he using the litterbox OK?

One of my male (neutered) cats blocked years ago and he was telling me by meowing constantly. I was too stupid to notice he was also running to the box every 5 minutes. Luckily I got him to the vet in time, once I noticed. He recovered, but the vet told me that if I had waited any longer he might not have made it.

Man, am I glad I don’t have a cat.

I get that you’re kidding, but IME, male cats are consistently more vocal when bored and desiring entertainment than female cats.

I grew up with Siamese cats, so I doubt I would even notice if a cat were more vocal than usual.

I have a Siamese, he’s meowing at me right now. He’s very vocal in general. Most of the time, it’s fun - like little conversations. But it can get annoying (especially when he does the “run into another room and yowl like he’s being tortured”).

Yes I was kidding. Thanks for not being po’d. And I would add that IME male (neutered) cats make the most loving pets when compared with spayed females.

I have three neutered males, and no question where the term “caterwauling” comes from. They talk all day every day. To me, to each other, to birds, squirrels, and passers-by outside the window. To my neighbors, through the front door. To the television, especially if there are animals on it. To the air and the walls, as far as I can tell. I worry about them when they stop.

My chattiest boy has only shut up twice in his life. Once was because he was profoundly freaked out by the arrival of cat #3 (lasted about 3 days), and once was because he had a sore, inflamed throat.

I had a cat once who held long conversations with a mark on the wall. The mark was indelible, I’d tried to remove it. Every day, that cat would talk to that mark. I thought of hanging up a picture, but I was afraid that I would overload Fluffy’s little fuzzy brain. She was not overly burdened with brains.

I’m actually beginning to suspect this is a litter box related issue. I recently moved the box… I don’t know if he was freaking out about it or it wasn’t clean enough or what, but after changing the litter and giving him some time to adjust he seems to have calmed down quite a bit. It could very well be a combination of that and my absence over the holiday (we had someone check in on him each day, but he usually is pretty agitated by the time we return.) He’s a vocal cat in general but at least it’s not 24/7 now.

I love cats.

I have 4 cats (including 2 Siamese) and they barely make a sound. When annoyed they’ll gave a mrowr, but that’s it.

Actually, he needs a brother or sister. Cats aren’t as social as dogs, but they do entertain each other, only if it is to ANNOY each other.

Warning: TWO cats like to play “Let’s Chase” at 4 AM…

OMG THREADSHITTER.

I’m kidding. Cats is weird, though.
