What?
No wet trout?
Ivygirl says thank you. We do have some DVD’s, so she’s going to watch Pirates in French.
There were a couple comedies in the 90s, Pure Luck and The Birdcage, that were remakes of French films (and there was also an American remake of Les Visiteurs). Those might be worth tracking down.
I had to sign up just to reply since no one mentioned “Jean de Florette” (with Gerard Depardieu). I know we watched it I think in Junior High school, and I loved, loved, loved it.
I also loved “Bleu” - I don’t recall there being anything gratuitous in it, but it is definitely a tad morose.
My favorite book of all time in school was “Colomba”, by Merimee. I read it in high school, so probably a bit advanced for her now, but one of my favorite lines is from there: “Si j’entrais dans le paradis saint, saint, et si je ne t’y trouvais pas, j’en sortirais”.
Loosely translated as, “If I entered heaven, and I did not find you there, I would leave.”
I think Depardieu also did an Asterix ey Obelix movie…we used to read those books growing up.
Makes me want a french pen-pal so I can brush up on my french! Best of luck to her, it’s a beautiful language.
Go to Ebay Canada. Go to french movies. Look for things like La Bus Magic, any of the French Disney movies, although they use alot of coloquialisms, and sometimes the language is harder than in adult movies. My 13 year old has Little Mermaid memorised in both French and English now. TV Cinq is a good option as well if it is available in your area.
I have to mention that I don’t think it’s a good idea to watch English movies dubbed into French as a way of learning the language. The mouth movements don’t match the sounds.

One note: watching DVDs and movies will help her with auditory comprehension, but may not be much help with her accent. She needs to be speaking and repeating good French as well as listening to it.
