# Help! Ha! Yours must be the exception rather than the rule šŸ˜ƒ Every other mally owner I know has lamented with me on the digging, OH GOD THE DIGGING šŸ˜ƒ As I said, I donā€™t mind šŸ˜ƒ The old owners of the house must have had a diggy dog, because thereā€™s concrete along most of the fencelines where a dog can reach, and despite solid efforts Huddyā€™s yet to be able to dig a hole big enough to fit his whole self in. I just let him go, it keeps him happy šŸ˜ƒ ---

Some people would pay a lot of money to have someone come in and turn over the top layer of soil so that they could apply a couple of feet of good topsoil and landscaping. Are there any noxious plants you could add, or maybe build a dog house so he can go inside? ---

I just let him go, it keeps him happy šŸ˜ƒ Yeah, nearly every mal/husky owner we know has the digging issue except usā€¦šŸ˜• We have the potential jumping-over-the-fence issue, though. The edge of our fence abuts the edge of our back deck, and if the railing wasnā€™t there, our mal could conceivably make a clean getaway :eek: When my husband noticed him eyeing it, thatā€™s when the ā€œno going out to the backyard unless youā€™re on a leashā€ rule was enforced. ---

Our fences are 7-8ā€™ high all around the yard, except for at the very back where the chicken run is, and he canā€™t get back there anyway. Even if he could, jumping seems to confuse him greatly. ---

I have three dogs and a woven wire fence surrounding the back yard. Hot Rod (boxer) climbs it like a goat, Sally squirms under it like a weasel, and Tucker just looks at it and then goes to check if the gate might be open. Youā€™d never know by looking at him that heā€™s the smart oneā€¦ ---

This sounds a little bit like the impossiblemoltendogparadox to me? But im not sure. Either way i think you need to remain vigilant and be very careful about any further continuation of this thread. Im sure an alert is being generated. ---

Well, it appears Sally has decided that rather than dig one single long tunnel through the earthā€™s molten core, she will instead go with a series of long narrow interconnected shallow tunnels. It sort of reminds me of the ever-changing hallways in House of Leaves. Sheā€™s not digging quite as energetically as she was, however. (I never could steel myself to the poop-in-the-hole method.) Mostly sheā€™s been happy to lay in the sun when she goes out. Plotting, no doubt. I was rather hoping that Siam Sam might send her back with a basket full of goodies, though. ---

She doesnā€™t want OSHA on her ass after all. ---

Picturesā€¦hmm. I know how to use my camera, and I know how to operate my computer. I donā€™t know yet how to make them share things, though. Iā€™ll consult my 12 year old and see what we can do. But if you picture ā€œBlack Shaggy Dogā€ in your mind, thatā€™s Sally. All of my other dogs seem sort of human in their ways, if you know what I meanā€¦HotRod considers himself one of the children, Tucker is observant and kind and more human-y than most. But Sally is pure, unadulterated Essence of Dog. I had no idea that a dog could be soā€¦_doggy_ until I got her. That sounds weird, but I think real dog-people probably understand what I mean. ---

Seeing as how she doesnā€™t, Iā€™d be wondering if sheā€™s filed the appropriate paperwork with the city as well as Environmental Impact Statements with the EPA. She could be looking at stiff fines at the very least if sheā€™s just decided to dig willy-nilly without having done her due diligence. The hammer really drops if she hits utility conduits. ---
