Maybe. I think it’s more likely that like most Texans, she was brought up to believe that any tax is bad even if it’s necessary for things like roads and police, that any social program makes us socialist even if it improves our nation as a whole and even if we already are more socialist than we’re willing to admit, that “liberal” is a dirty word no matter how corrupt our conservative politicians may be, and that eventually everyone will recognize that Texas and God are the only true salvation for the United States, amen. ---

Wow, you’re really quite angry, aren’t you? I’m sorry that my representation of the people of my state offends you, but your offended sensibilities doesn’t make it less true. We are proud of our religion and our Libertarian/conservative posture toward politics. I’m liberal but I’m definitely in the minority. We also love football and marching bands to the point that we’re a little silly about them. You tell me. Does calling something a stereotype and dismissing it out of hand make it less true? Or do you simply insist that there are no regional similarities to any group of people and stereotypes evolve purely from prejudice? ---

Not angry, just mildly amused that you still don’t grasp the point. Yes, many Texans love football and marching bands. I’m a Texan: do you _assume_ that I, as an individual, _must_ love football and marching bands? Many blacks support Obama. Do you _assume_ that an individual black person you just met _must_ support Obama? Many American Jews are pro-Israel. Do you _assume_ that an individual Jew you just met _must_ be pro-Israel? Many gays are Democrat. Do you _assume_ that an individual gay coworker _must_ be a Democrat, and are astonished when she isn’t–to the extent that you fall back on yet another stereotype (oh, she’s a Texan) to explain her views? Looks to me that life is trying to hand you a little lesson here, and you keep handing it back. ---

I seem to remember a few people claiming Bill Clinton was the AntiChrist. I think a case may even have been made for Ronald Wilson Reagan being the AntiChrist (each of his names has six letters :eek: ). although that may have been a joke – it was a few years ago. I’ve come to the conclusion there’s no end to the silly things people will believe and they’ll cling to those beliefs in the face of all evidence to the contrary. Then again, if you ask some of the atheists around here, that applies to me, too. ---

The very best way to get me to see your point is by being a bit more condescending and self righteous. If I don’t reply it isn’t because I’m ignoring you, promise. Personally I think we’re talking past each other. You’re bound and determined that I’m stereotyping no matter what, I’m bound and determined that you’re not listening to the fact that I’m blown away that anyone would vote against several key issues that affect them. A few gems: -He used to live in a house with the address number 666 -His bullet wound scar resembles the scar of the antichrist -If you convert his names to numbers, add them up, then add them up again, you get 666 -The UN something something something. Personally, my favorite group of end times lunatics are the guys trying to get Barney (yes, the purple dinosaur) canceled because he’s the antichrist. ---
