I always liked Zoe for a little girl. But my first daughter (god willing - please please please) will be Ryan. Named after my husband’s late mother. It just sounds so bad ass. Her name was Ryan Burke Walker. Mine will be Ryan Elizabeth Walker.
Not to be confused with Aric, which (I think may be Modern Hebrew) and has also been showing up a lot here in this section of the Bible Belt.
My husband has seriously suggested Balthazar before. (It was his “serious” suggested name after suggesting Sephiroth.)

Nonsense. That’s not why kids get picked on. I’ve known kids with unusual names who were not picked on, and I’ve known kids with “normal” names who were picked on.
You can’t say that like it’s an absolute statement. I’ve known plenty of kids who were picked on for having strange names, and I’m sure most other people here have too. It’s not the only reason kids get picked on (other popular reasons are being perceived by other kids as: dumb, fat, a suck up, or weird) but it is a fairly common one.
Wow. Yesterday was crazy so I didn’t get a chance to go through them.
My issue is the names I like always seem to have something wrong with them. Going through the thread I like
Josephine - but I have an uncle Joe who is the type the think I named her after him
Daphne - My husband watches way too much Scooby-Doo for this name
Antigone - We both work in theatre so this one makes me smile, but I don’t think husband would go for it.
Veronica - I am sure husband would make some Archie crack
Emilienne - Well I can’t think of anything bad about this one. I’ll put it on the list.
Boys names are harder. I like Cole and will suggest that.
Here are some names that we have come up with
Cecily - Again a theatre reference.
Emmett - I would totally call him Doc for short
Quentin - I like it as a boys name, but since GLEE started I don’t think that name is in the running anymore.
With our first we went with a name that was easy to pronounce, could be shortened into a more common name, and we gave her a common middle name to cover all the bases. The year she was born there were 5 others in Alberta born with the same name.
My brother picked Placenta Negligee but they had a boy and named him Erik Allen.
I was going to name a second baby girl Alice. It is not one that you see used but it doesn’t come off as a strange name.
Florence has gone out of fashion but that is probably for the best
Pheobe isn’t bad
Kathleen is not on that list, neither, oddly enough, are Susan and Margaret or Lucy.
Kerry for a boy has fallen off of the top 100
Brian is only 94
Dean
Blake is 89
Neil
Oh, theatre people! That helps.
Cosette

Ezra (really what’s better than that?)
Ok… It is important for theatre people to have a baby named Ernest

OOnagh…really? Poor kid will be the laughing stock of his class.
Oonah’s a girl’s name, like Eugene O’Neill’s daughter who married a MUCH older Charlie Chaplin.
How’s about -
Atticus
Ramsey
Clark
Forgive me I should have known OOnagh is for a girl. It sounds so feminine:rolleyes:
What does feminine sound like?
How about Temple for a girl or a boy?
Do you pronounce the last name with a German accent? Because in my mind, you do and it’s HILARIOUS.
Names I like:
Girls:
Hadley
Moira
Margaret (lots of potential nicknames too)
Boys:
Michael (yes, top 50 I’m SURE, but very classic)
Edward (potentially problematic with the whole Twilight thing. Lots of nicknames. Personally, I like Ned as a nickname for Edward)
Samuel (not sure about the top 50, but it could be up there)
I love both of those names, too.
That’s a disease.
I like these, too! Particularly Tobias, since that’s what I named my cat.
Nice to hear what names actually appeal to you, and I like pretty much all of them. Good choices!
I love this name. So beautiful.
Some more suggestions:
Thaddeus
Griffith
Aldan
Miranda
Chauncy
Lorelei
Courtesy of my keyboard - W73ruuu. And, for a boy, Arivndhj.
Actually kinda like that second one. Personally, I’m old-fashioned a bit and will go with John, Chris, Emily, or Jen most likely.
Oh, and as for rankings:
Thaddeus – 987
Griffith – not in the top 1,000 male names for any year of birth in the last 11 years (though I have a friend who named her son Griffith and he’s 12 years old now).
Aldan – not in the top 1,000 male names for any year of birth in the last 11 years.
Miranda – 175
Chauncy – not in the top 1,000 female names for any year of birth in the last 11 years.
Lorelei – 531
Esther for a girl. It’s low in rank, but not exotic. Also a strong heroine. Same thing for Judith.
Or Denise. It was really popular in the 50’s and 60’s but sank like a stone and is now in the 300’s somewhere.
