After 6 hours with him, I can honestly say that some sort of fart joke for a name would be appropriate… What are they feeding him at that place?! ---

Nixon! I want a dog, but it’s a bad idea since I live in an apartment downtown, and I’m never home. I hear dogs need to be fed and walked, and such. Daily! But I keep saying if I ever get a yard or start staying in more (which will be never), I’ll get a pup and I’ll name him Nixon. ---

Adjusting the diet can have a big effect. We had Rufus on all puppy chow and he had brutal eyewatering, windowrattling farts. We mixed in about 10-20% grownup food, and all became bearable. ---

If-We-Had-Not-Rescued-Thee-Thou-Wouldst-Have-Been-Damned-Barebones Barebones for short. A play on my favorite name of all time, that made Ripley’s when I was a kid. I also feel like you could spruce up his mutthood with a fancy name from history. Pedro de Alcântara Maria Fernando Miguel Rafael Gonzaga Xavier João António Leopoldo Vítor Francisco de Assis Júlio Amélio de Saxe-Coburgo-Gotha e Bragança, perhaps. First poodle to the other poodle: “And what is your name, if I may ask?” Second poodle to the first: 'Fifi. F-I-F-I. May I inquire about your name?" First poodle: “Mimi. M-I-M-I.” Long silence. Mutt hangs in there. Won’t drop off. Finally. With a dismissive sniff. One of the poodles: “And your name, then?” Mutt: “Fido. P-H-Y-D-E-A-U-X.” ---

Update: Still no big watershed moment in naming the New Guy (I’ve been calling him New Guy) yet. However, he and Tilly are getting along great. They play extremely well, which was the main reason for wanting a second dog. Tilly was chewing on her kong, and snapped at him for coming to close the other day, but she later felt bad and brought it to him as a gift. Pretty sweet. He’s a real puller when we’re walking. I took him out separately, and used Tilly’s gentle leader on him, and he was an entirely new dog. So it looks like that works well. (It doesn’t work much for Tilly, so he may inherit it.) He has peed in the house three times so far, but we’re working on it. I expect a few more accidents until he gets used to living inside a house (after living on the street for who-knows-how-long, and then living in a doggie daycare where they just go on the floor, there’s no reason for him to know otherwise yet). He has already learned that peeing outside results in a treat - so there’s room for quick improvement. I think Tilly may be slightly jealous of the intrusion, but it’s far better than her being bored and under-exercised. And once I complete my backyard fence, these dogs will not lack for activity. ---
