I lost the security code for my car stereo. So of course, I can’t the stereo at all. I called the dealer from where I bought the car 12 years ago, but they have long since purged my records. The dealer said my only solution is to pull out the stereo and read a few numbers off the back. The dealer can convert these numbers in to the security code.

Any tips on removing the stereo? Is it easy/hard? How long will it take me? Any free online instructions available? I am reasonablly handy, but I am not sure if there are any tricks to pulling out a factory-installed car stereo.

This isn’t a project that I want to spend any money on. I intend on selling the car and it would help if the stereo was unlocked.

I’m not familiar with the Acuras, but I’ve pulled out factory stereos from several cars, and it’s very easy. All you need to do is get the panels off (usually, there are several screws you need to get to. In my old Nissan Stanza, the panel starts just left of the steering wheel and continues all the way to the stereo). Once you get that off, it’s just a matter of unscrewing the car stereo from the bracket it’s attached to.

[Look here for Acura instructions.](http://www.carstereohelp.com/stracura.htm)
