Help us figure out how to save these puppies in a culvert (need help fast)!

get a couple fiberglass tent poles, tape together. wire a chunk of chicken on the end, pull out slowly. repeat until they’re all out.

What would be perfect to send in is a dog. Maybe after a year of training.

I wonder how well it would work to put a smartphone and a flashlight down the tunnle to send video to another smart phone or laptop, so you could get a good look at them and guide the rescue implements.
Best of luck getting them to safety.

What about a remote control monster truck with food taped on?

send a remote controlled truck down with a camera that trasmits. smack into the puppies and drive them out the other end.

Happy ending! Here’s the story and pictures:

"During a recent spay neuter clinic, we noticed a young momma dog who was obviously nursing puppies. Upon inquiries we were told that she had given birth beside a house but when larger dogs started coming around she did what any good momma would do and moved her babies out of sight. We watched for the momma dog that weekend and saw her standing on a road beside a ditch. As we searched the area, we noticed a small culvert buried into a hill and yes, we could hear faint puppy sounds coming from deep within. Unfortunately the culvert had no exit and we knew that once the rain came the culvert would fill with water. Attempts to reach the puppies were unsuccessful so we came home to make a plan. Even though the momma was friendly and willingly came to us, we needed to reach her puppies in order to save them. Shirley, a resident in the area would come feed the young momma dog during the week until we could get back there to try again. 5 days later, a second attempt was made with the help of a person small and brave enough to fit into the 18 inch in diameter culvert but now the pups were moving deeper into the dark wet pipe and after many hours, we were unsuccessful. This would call for more drastic measures and once again we came home to come up with a better plan.

With the forecast calling for heavy rain, we knew we were running out of time so the next day, we headed back there, this time with a rented bobcat that could dig out the other end of the culvert. Momma was already safely in a crate anxiously waiting for the rest of her puppies. Before starting to dig, someone decided to one more time try crawling into the culvert and at about 10 feet in, he was able to reach the puppies as we pulled them all out to safety. The puppies were wet, dirty and hungry, the culvert had already begun to fill with water and debris. The culvert was very dirty and in turn so were we and of course the puppies. As we drove towards Calgary, the rain started and we knew that we had gotten these puppies in the nick of time.

Thanks to the dedicated volunteers who dropped everything this weekend to come to the rescue of this young dog and her pups."

One of the puppies.

Happy momma and puppies.

Yay for happy endings! Momma looks like a Dingo

Oh yay - I didn’t clog up the thread earlier because I didn’t have any advice, but I was thinking about those poor pups.

So glad they’re out and safe!

Fantastic, made my morning!

Wow, great work! I was thinking about this all day and logged on just to check for an update.

Pats on the head for all the puppies and a pat on the back for the heroic culvert diver(s)!

S.

Congrats to all of you! May those dogs all have a long, healthy life with a loving family.

Phew! Well done the rescuers.

What great news to read. Thanks to the courageous ijjit who crawled in there - I can do many heroic things but squeezing into tight underground spaces is a 9.95 on my willies scale, so I sincerely admire the effort.

Hooray for the happy ending!

Yay indeed!

It’s only 2 am on Monday but this has already made my week!

Yay for kind, dedicated people and little fat puppies…

Muddy fat little puppies - cute
