help us make it through the night

I think that’s sweet of you to take such good care of the kitty.

little one has finely figured out how to use the bottle!
has definatly figured out pee pee, and how to wake me up.

On behalf of cat lovers everywhere (such as myself), THANK YOU for your kindness to that poor kitten!

the little one is doing well. it has been quite an eventful week.

little one didn’t poop on sunday, so monday at 8am we went to the vet’s again. they wanted to observe and hopefully get things moving. also there was a bit of a scare sunday night with the left arm. at 5 pm when i picked up the furface, still nothing , the arm was fine, and the bottle is the wee ones new best friend. between monday and tuesday a new nickname was given “midnight pooper.” our family has a new code sentence, “the kitten poops at midnight.” new ability, pooping.

tues. was a rough day, just couldn’t get comfy, so we left work at 10:15am and spent the day together at home. i decided to go with malenki for a name and deal with gender issues when they happen. finally settled down at 2 am on wends. new ability, lifting up on frount feet.

wends was a good day until… the night feeding. i was washing the little furface and noticed a “sleeper” in the corner of the left eye. when i removed it i nearly went into shock. malenki has a very, very, very, VERY bad eye infection. panic call to the vet. she said to come by as soon as possible in the am. new ability, trying to sit up.

thurs am. finally a gender decision!!! it’s a boy! no need to change the name. we get his eyes cleaned up and ointment put in and finally he opens them up all the way. no damage from the infection. whew! he has gained an ounce and a half. new ability, seeing

i don’t have to feed him as often now, so today he spent the day at home. i just came home during lunch to give him lunch. he has really come a long way this week. his eyes have cleared up tremendously. new ability, lifting his body up, and walking on all 4 feet properly.

I somehow missed all the excitement last week, but I’m glad everything turned out well.

You rock, rocking chair. If we ever meet up at a Philly Dopefest, you got a beer comin’ from me.

I’m glad you got him when he was so little, the old they are, the longer it takes to tame them.

About four years ago, a stray cat had 3 kittens in our great-grandmother’s garage(a very old garage, with a dirt floor, some animal had already tunneled into it earlier). While we didn’t really want to adopt them, since we had 5 cats of our own already, we figured there was no harm in feeding them and letting them stay there until the kittens were big enough to be given away. When they were about 12 weeks old, we caught the male kitten, and My aunt took him home (Sam’s his name.) We were looking for homes for the other two when disaster struck: the mother and one of the kittens disappeared. The third kitten,(eventually named Boo) was very lonely and scared, cried for mommy. Since the mother nor her sibling returned, we figured they were dead. We tried hard to catch her, but she was already wild. However, we were greatly concerned about the large gash along her neck, and were able to talk our vet into giving us antibiotics for her, since it looked quite nasty. We left out bowls of milk laced with the proper amount of antibiotic, and watched to make sure it was her drinking it, and not something else. After a few days of being fed she let her guard down enough that my mom was able to scoop her up and bring her into the house. It took about a year to tame her. Sadly, the female cat hated her and beat her up often, so she ran away when she snuck outside this fall… but she was a sweet animal once she got used to people.

We were able to surmise from our neighbors who’d had similar attacks on their small pets that the other kitten had been killed by one of the possums we’d seen wandering out of the garage (we did find the kitten, well, it’s paw, later) and the mother cat eventually turned up in the neighborhood again, so apparently she thought Boo was dead too, and left. I wish Boo would come back, my mom really misses her, though I know it’s totally unlikely that she would after so long.

Ah well, this is more depressing than I meant it to be. I’m sure you’ll have better luck with your little guy. No matter what, he’s far better off with you than being a stray
