**PucksRaven** and I foster kittens for a local rescue org. The mama cat (who is feral), lives in our spare bathroom with her kittens. We socialize them and get them accustomed to humans. When they are weaned, the mom is fixed and released into a managed colony, and the kittens stay with us until they are big enough to be fixed and adopted to homes. Last night, we got our [first set of kittens for the season](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=244367&highlight=kitten). They are about 2 weeks old, one black and white, the other is tortoiseshell (like the mama). We need to call them something for the time we will have them. Anecdotal evidence suggests that kittens with cute names are more appealing to potential adopters, and names that ‘go’ together are more likely to get people thinking about adopting them as a set—which is good for kittens. Male tortoiseshells are extremely rare, so it’s safe to say that one is a girl. We think the black and white is a boy, but it’s real hard to tell at this age, and we’ve been wrong before, so we’d like to stick to fairly androgynous names for that one. Can you guys help? It’s for a good cause! ---

So if you want something cute I guess my suggestion of “Eddipuss” (Oedipus) and “Rex” probably won’t do. My next cat will be “Eddipuss” and nicknamed Eddi, but that’s a long way down the road (God willing.) ---
