I’m trying to recall the name of a movie that was released in the late 80s or early 90s. The plot centered around a couple of fair skinned Caucasian kids on the run through an African desert trying to escape bad guys. They meet up with a an adolescent Bushman boy, who teaches them about living in the desert, and guides them to civilization. The journey was about 1000 miles.

I want to think the setting was Angola or Namibia, but I may be confusing story setting with movie location. I also want to think the movie was either outright Disney, or their Touchstone subsidiary.

Anyone know what movie I’m describing? I struck out at IMDB and a couple other sites, FWIW.

Sounds like 1993’s _[A Far Off Place](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106868/)_.

> The witty Nonni and the stuck-up city-boy Harry are the only ones to survive a massacre of a gang of poachers among the gamekeeper’s family on his lonesome farm in the savanna. Now the ruthless murderers are after them as the only witnesses. Without a means of transportation, the only way to escape is to walk through 2000 kilometers of Kalahari desert with the help of the African bushman Xhabbo. On the months-long journey ahead they not only become good friends against their differences, but also realize that every one of them has strength and skills that are required to survive.

[I typed “two boys and a bushman in africa escape movie” in Google, and this popped up first.]

I haven’t seen **A Far Off Place** , but it sounds like a remake of [Walkabout](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067959/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1) (1971)
