I’d try an anti-inflammatory. Gabapentin is an anti-convulsant that is sometimes prescribed for nerve pain. The source of the pain though remains unknown, and exactly how gabapentin works is not well understood, so as a diagnostic tool its value is questionable.
Any signs of spondylosis? This would show on an x-ray.
