Henry Kissinger Has Died

I think he was more directly responsible in many of those deaths.

Kissinger was deeply involved in the bombing raids on Cambodia—and in keeping them a secret from Congress and the public. According to a Pentagon report released in 1973, “Henry A. Kissinger approved each of the 3,875 Cambodia bombing raids in 1969 and 1970” as well as “the methods for keeping them out of the newspapers.”

By the end of the bombing campaign, nicknamed “Operation Menu,” the U.S. had dropped a total of 110,000 tons of bombs that killed between 150,000 and 500,000 civilians. The Khmer Rouge galvanized anti-American sentiment in a destabilized Cambodia, rising to power and slaughtering 1.7 to 2.2 million Cambodians as part of the Cambodian genocide.

And adding what he did in Latin America, (add Chile into that “menu”) it is good enough for me to be happy to know that evil guys like him are dead.

I can easily imagine what it was like for a German Jewish refugee to return to hunt Gestapo and help liberate a concentration camp.

I get sickened by the anti-semitism seen today in America.

I highly recommend the Behind the Bastards podcast’s series on Kissinger. It’s a six-part series (well over eight hours total) but it’s a wonderfully accessible introduction to the man’s villainy.

I think one should not ignore that, and then realize that it makes him look worse for what he did later…

He knew better.

You seriously think people only have issues with Kissinger because he was Jewish and its indicative of antisemitism? I’ve got a great idea for an encore: rehabilitating Idi Amin. The only reason people had a problem with him is because he was black. You should be sickened by the racism seen in criticizing him.

I was referring to the current anti-semitism attacks in America. Particularly at our more esteemed colleges. It is comparable to early 1930’s Germany (a few years before Kristallnacht) when Kissinger was a child

Kissinger should be critiqued for the policies he endorsed. His religion had very little to do with his service as a statesman.

I think “service” is not the word I would use.

I really enjoy Behind the Bastards far more than I should, but be advised that it skews toward satire and outrage over strict fact-checking. Robert Evans basically reads a couple of books about the subject, and then has a conversation with a guest (usually a comedian or another former Cracked contributor), and then just reiterates his notes without much of any independent checking. Not that there isn’t enough vileness about Kissinger to fill out eight hours of caustic humor and grimly wry observations, but just be careful about uncritically repeating what you hear.

Who here has made any anti-semetic comments or critiqued him for his religious heritage?

Why yes, entirely comparable. How could you miss the SA stormtroopers marching around campus, the Nuremberg Laws denying Jews American citizenship and the whole slew of antisemitic laws passed by congress over the last five years doing everything from firing Jews from government jobs to requiring passports and ID cards be stamped with a J for Jewish to forbidding Jewish doctors from treating non-Jewish patients to excluding Jews from American economic life to forbidding courts from citing legal opinions written by Jews.

The only person who has brought up Kissinger’s ethnicity is you.

Many people have risen to power and influenced foreign policy without sanctioning heinous crimes. That Obama and Kissinger both came to the conclusion that their evil acts were warranted do not make those actions less evil. It seems it is now impossible to wield US foreign policy without becoming a war criminal, this is in no small way thanks to what Henry Kissinger built.

Stay out of this thread going forward and watch yourself to avoid hijacks going forward.

Damn. That’s where I usually watch it.

If it weren’t for screens in gyms and airports, CNN would have viewership rate just above CLEO TV and below Justice Central.

And if it wasn’t for banks and motel breakfast nooks, OANN would be at the rock bottom.

Anyway, in the past couple of years, I FINALLY read the Dr. Tom Dooley trilogy that came out in the early 1960s, around the time of his very early death (from cancer) that is a staple of used book- and thrift stores, and figured out pretty quickly that the guy was full of crap. He barely got into and barely graduated from medical school, and was basically a tool of the CIA. Kissinger appears to have continued his “work.”
