The key, IMO is reasonableness If I suddenly decided, without reason, to be offended by the term “cabbage” it would be unreasonable to expect people to stop using it in my presence. “Queer” has long been a slur towards gay people and there are legit arguments on both sides of the issue. The same cannot be said for “turdburgler” which, while a gross term _doesn’t even refer to gay sex_. (Fisting, maybe but that’s not exclusively a gay activity.) Unless one has a prehenstile penis with which one can burgle turds, there’s no rational way to take offense. That said, had the dickheads who’ve been bitching about the term had simply made a comment like “Perhaps you weren’t aware that this term has been a favorite anti-gay pejorative amongst the Junior High School set where I hang out. I’m sure you meant no offense to gay people by it, but could you refrain from using that term?” I doubt the thread woulda gone to what…seven pages? Fenris ---
