Ok. So. I spoke with several ChiDopers on Friday night as we enjoyed some fine fatty foods at Leonas. Aside from thinksnow’s snide remark to my husband that all I do is talk about sex :D, it was a pretty good time. In the midst of our Chidopery I wondered aloud (a condition I’m having checked) why there hasn’t been one…giant…NORTH AMERICAN and INDEED WORLD WIDE Dopefest…An Ignorance Fighting Convention if you will. In the midst of THAT conversation, Magdalene basically double dog dared me to see if I could get it started. And so…with a hearty raspberry to Mag (whom I love)…I’m trying to get it started. I would like to form a committee of people to begin planning such a thing. And I know this will inspire groaning, but I think it should be in Chicago, seeing as we are sort of the middle of the country, the Straight Dope is BASED here, and…well, I’m a lazy bastardess. We would need to find a long weekend, rent a hotel floor or two I assume, plan activities (why not an awards ceremony? A Dopefest slide show? Get a band?), figure costs to each person…would anyone be interested in doing this? It would be a bugger of a project but that’s what I like to do best. buggering I mean… jarbaby ---

Although if I may be impertinent and self serving for a moment, that is actually the event that spawned the discussion at Leonas. I’m not talking about just a party (although that sounds like an all out bash)… I’m talking about an semi organized weekend of events…it would cost a few bucks for people, certainly, but I think it would be a blast if planned correctly. Just for the record, Chicago is not in the middle of the country or even close. Oklahoma is right in the heartland. So, nayh. 😛 It should be here. Although I would suggest any time but the spring. Unless you consider dodging tornados a fun activity. 🙂 ---

How many people actually ended up going to the all dopers dopefest in Las Vegas last year? I think that should be tried again. In August or September I’d be ready for a vacation.
