[/QUOTE] The arrogance and smarminess **QG** emits is palpable in so many of her posts. The above quote, though, it what got me to chime in. I have never understood the attitudes of people who don’t even entertain the idea that they could be wrong. Even if they research their posts or can’t independently verify other people’s personal lives, they could still be wrong. You see, earlier it was posted that **QG** wished she could work among scientists. Well, I’m here (as one of those scientists) to tell her that her attitude just wouldn’t fly. I have always perceived **QG** as someone who, unless backed into a corner, or decided that there was no personal capital to be lost, will never honestly admit a mistake. I truly hope it’s a misconception, but that is sure how she comes off to me. In science we research our ideas, thoroughly explore every possibility (like was described in the above quote) and when we are finally sure we’ve missed nothing… …we take our results to someone else and ask “show me where I am wrong”. You start with assumption that you just don’t have it until you finally assure yourself that you could be right. **QG’s** attitude which comes through in her posts is that she never challenges her own beliefs in her correctness. That challenge is not only internal (based on your own belief system, a self check as it were) but also external (does my world view jive with the way other people view the world). You do not have to accept other people’s views, but they are there to help you examine if your own view of your ideas and assumptions is as correct as you think it is. I’m not a prolific poster- I prefer to lurk and think of great things to write in my head and then decide that \*\*WhatExit, Twickster, QtM or WhyNot \*\* (or many of the other terrific posters) will come along and say it better- so do with this as you will. **QG** , just please remember, the scientist will always ask- “show me where I am wrong.” ---

People who write coherenly, praise the Lord, yes. People with very interesting experiences and information to impart, absolutely. Wisdom is rare and I don’t see vast quantities of it here. That said, I do pay attention to what you write, because in the last trainwreck, you wrote some very sensible things to me which were extremely helpful. I think you think far too little of yourself, but then that’s often the case with people who are truly wise. ---

[/QUOTE] One thing to consider- because you’re right- you should take the word of the people who know you best- is this: On the dope we communicate in a far different manner than IRL. Most have suggested that the issue is in your writing style and tone- IRL people see you facial expressions, a smile perhaps, to soften a comment. They see you work well at the office or volunteer and get a rounded picture and different types of interactions with you. On the board it is one-dimensional… written- yet it is still real. Put the comments here in context- how you come off in a written format may be different than how you come off face to face. However, that doesn’t give you a free pass- just an opportunity to grow in a new area.
