Okay, it was a shootout during a burglary, and the suspect was killed and two officers were injured, but that it happened at one of the biggest gun stores in the U.S. - I mean, wouldn’t that be the safest place on earth? (snark) This was in Smyrna, Georgia. Idiots try to rob or shoplift gun stores with amazing regularity. Usually they’re confronted by armed clerks & back down. But I’m sure I’ve read of a few getting shot in the process. ---

An absolute classic Darwin Award came from an idiot attempting to rob a gun store. With a police patrol car parked right in front of it. Last year a suicidal fellow went to a large sporting goods store in Eden Prairie that has a big gun section. He asked to see a pistol and when the clerk gave it to him he ran off with it to another section of the store, loaded a bullet in it that he had in his pocket, and shot himself.
