Here's something minorly stupid

And it’s a nifty website, too. Very interesting.

Thanks!

If you are even reasonably coordinated you can refill your ink cartridges.
I have been refilling my various printers for over 10 years.
They sell self resetting chipped cartridges for the nastier brands of printers.

Google Inkjet refill kit and your model of printer.

The bulk ink costs about 1/50th of the stuff in stores.
They have different inks for different printers and also generic ink that works in all printers.

I have never had a print head failure until my son decided to wash the print head out under water. (They don’t like that much)

Mac.

I begin to understand your username.

Do you manage to do it OK without creating an enormous mess?

Maybe things have changed since I last looked at inkjet refill kits, but way back then, they consisted of a stubby syringe of ink that you had to press down hard into a valve at the same time as depressing the plunger to charge the cartridge. I just knew that if I ever tried it, I’d slip and end up looking like a member of the Blue Man Group.

The best kits have bottles with 2 inch blunt needles on the cap.
Like this They don’t show a picture of their kit but they are nice kits.

When I refilled the first time, I made a HUGE mess, fortunately the ink is water washable so it cleaned up.

I have since learned the tricks and now refill the cartridges without even taking them out of the printer, in about a minute for all the colors.
I wear a rubber glove and have a damp paper towel in my other hand.

If you print a LOT you can get a continuous ink system , I have one on one of my photo printers, they are still kinda buggy and prone to problems, at least on Canon printers.
