Fundies’ hold on this country is awful. “And one nation under God” and “In God We Trust” as Mister Damage said earlier. Not like I pledge alleigence in school or worship money like the phat cats do, but still. Well I do like the “Pledge of Grievance.”
I pledge grievance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republicans who I can’t stand, one nation under smog, Indispicable, with libetry for JUST US not ALL. (just us being the phat cats)
~NOFX~
I’m not a huge NOFX fan, but still, its great.
I believe that the wheat penny was introduced then. When did the back side change?
My nickel says “FIVE CENTS”. Or do you want a “5”?
Funny, I never heard before that either Darwin or Dickens owned bears. Nor that bear ownership was considered in putting people on money.
::runs far, far away::
: My nickel says “FIVE CENTS”. Or do you want a “5”?
A “5.”
For those not familiar with coins from the US, here’s what the denominations say, in order of physical size from smallest to largest.
“ONE DIME” (10c)
“ONE CENT” (1c)
“FIVE CENTS” (5c)
“QUARTER DOLLAR” (25c)
“ONE DOLLAR” ($1)
“HALF DOLLAR” (50c)
BTW, the back of the Lincoln cent changed from wheat to the Lincoln memorial in 1959.
Thank you, Kat. I read that sentence about fifteen times before I finally figured out what it meant.
(“Bears? Forebears? No, they’re talking about hair – bares?”)
Hell Coldfire, flowers are pretty attractive too, but you wouldn’t want to be paid in them;).
Yeah, it is… but (to me, after growing up in the states) it looks and feels like REAL money! I just got some today (in preparation for my flight tomorrow home to the good ol’ USA! :)) and it feels GOOD to hold a real $20 bill!
The money here in Korea is interesting looking, but I can’t shake the feeling that it is play money… this means I burn through a 100,000 won (about $80 or so) MUCH faster than I’d burn through the same amount in Mi-Gook (American) money!
Huh? You want some more of this Monopoly money? Sure, here… take all ya want! I got a bunch of them!!
I found that American money was confusing, people say ‘dime’ or ‘nickel’ and I have no idea. Quarter and half are understandable, but the others. Not that the British are any better. ‘Bob’? Also the way it is all the same colour really confused me. I managed to give a cab driver a $20 tip one day because I couldn’t tell the difference between the $10 and $20 notes.
Monopoly money is when going to Italy or Turkey. 100 000 lire for a kebab?, yeah sure.
FloChi, if you look carefully, the notes also have the denominations written on them in numbers…
Dime = 10c
Nickel = 5c
Nobody really says ‘bob’ anymore. Quid, squid, bullet, nugget maybe, but not bob.
