# herpes and conception

I know that people with the herpes virus can pass it on easily when the cold sores appear, but is it okay to try and conceive during this time or would it be prudent to not try and for what reasons?

According to William D. McIntosh, MD, FACOG (Fellow of the Americal College of Obsterics & Gynecology) there is no risk from conception during an outbreak, only from delivery during an outbreak.
