Incidentally, I’ve tried the Special Dark syrup. If you pour it on a bowl of vanilla ice cream, you can’t really detect a difference from regular chocolate syrup. Chocolate milk tastes about the same, too. You’d actually have to drink the stuff directly before you’d notice…
Hershey’s SD is cheap. I eat Ghirardelli Dark Sweet chocolate (unless I’m out, then I’ll suffer with SD). They use a LOT more actual chocolate than Hershey’s. I can actually get a buzz off of Ghirardelli.
Interesting story: I used to work with a woman who is the niece of the CEO of Hershey’s. She visited my office one day and I playfully apologized for eating a brand besides Hershey’s, but that I didn’t like Special Dark because they used paraffin to extend the chocolate. Not long after that they changed the recipe “Now even creamier!” I always wondered if I had anything to do with that…
Hershey’s SD is paradise in a foil wrapper!!! I love it ! Vastly better than the regular stuff!
The Hershey online gift shop only has this all-Dark item:
For a list of links to buy candy online:
From there, I found candycenter.com, which had the giant Dark Special bars for sale.
Peace.
Online buyer beware. Above links are not an endorsement from me nor from this BB provider of these candy suppliers, candy suppliers link suppliers, nor of their veiws (which are often fascist in nature). Nor is this intended to be an endorsement of eating chocolate or using it as a marital aid.
Ahhh, SD’s. I love them but I have to have them in the minatures form, too much of chocolate and I get tired of it.
Yorks Pepperments, Andes’, and Aftereights, all have to be frozen before eating, makes them perfect.
I kill for a good caramel or mint.
Syrup? They make syrup? <twitch twitch>
But, but, what else would you do with it? Ever notice how the top on a bottle of chocolate syrup is just exactly like the top of a sports bottle?
Vera
Exactly my point, Vera. And, really, you CAN tell the difference on ice cream. The SD isn’t sickeningly sweet, and you can use gallons of it without getting nauseous. I was never able to use much of the regular syrup, but the Special Dark … mmmm.
Ooh… the only SD syrup I’ve ever seen comes in a can, but the plastic (sports) bottle would be evil…
Also, for anyone who has trouble finding candy & doesn’t want to order online: I suggest wandering down to your local university (preferably one with an Engineering school). I have yet to see a university exist without a kick-ass candy store nearby. Just remember that right now is finals time, so don’t be too aggressive
