Scientists have for the first time [captured video](https://www.sciencealert.com/cholera-bacteria-using-pili-to-harpoon-dna-horizontal-gene-transfer-antibiotic-resistance?perpetual=yes&limitstart=1) of a bacterium reaching out and grabbing a handful of extracellular DNA to evolve itself with.
