I get so mad when I see heterosexuals kissing or being affectionate on the subway or in restaurants/in public!

WTF is wrong with people? What happened to discretion? What happened to modesty?

Contrary to what you may think, folks, your heterosexual public display of affection is not “cute”, does not make you Jennifer Aniston and Matt LeBlanc, does not demonstrate your supremacy over those not heterosexual, and it does not even demonstrate that you are heterosexual.

It does demonstrate that you are an ignorant, insecure person, and it is NOT ATTRACTIVE. IMO, people who do this are typically the same ones who bash gays and are the biggest homophobes on Earth. If you dislike seeing gays suck face and hold hands in front of you, don’t do it in front of complete strangers who may, in fact, be gay, lesbian or bisexual.

Thank you.

As long as protection is used and there is flattering lighting, I see no problem with it. I’ll just wear my Heterosexual Sensitive Glasses™ which will allow them to have their tryst and I won’t have to watch.

(must restain myself)

Did you ever think that people show affection to eachother in public because they love eachother? If I kiss my girlfriend in public it is for the same reason that I would do in my own house. Its not a display to piss anybody off. As for the gaybashing comment, thats just fucking ridiculous as I think you well know.

Wowsers. So long as the PDOA hasn’t reached the point of drawing “Get a ROOM” calls from the cheap seats, what’s the big deal?

I fail to see where hetero or homo selection has the slightest bearing.

Then again, some of the stuff that was acceptable when I was in High School would draw a sentence of 20 years hard labor under today’s ZT regulations.

God forbid we teach our kids to express affection in a reasonable manner, without regard to gender issues. AS IF!

“people” and “heterosexuals” are two separate groups. I think some heterosexuals (actually, in honesty, most of those who do it) who display affection publicly are trying to “make a statement”. I would prefer if they either remain silent or else use a little discretion, like a peck on the cheek.

No, it’s not fucking ridiculous. It’s true, as I think you well know.

In all fairness Otto it was kind of an awkwardly made point in the OP. Most of the SDMB wouldn’t bust on gays or straights for standard, affectionate “don’t scare the horses” PDAs, and the OP’s somewhat (IMO) snotty post is addressing us like we’re a bunch of homophobes. I can see how some people might be confused.

I’m just…confused…Jennifer Aniston and Matt LeBlanc??

~sigh~ Why do some people seem to think that being gay, lesbian, or bisexual, or a supporter of said persons, feel that reverse discrimination is ok?

It’s like black people talking badly about white people…women bashing men. Yes, you were wronged originally. Wronging someone else doesn’t make it better.

People who “display affection publicly are trying to make a statement”? What “statement”? “Hey! Look at me, I’m straight and kissing my boyfriend/girlfriend!” “Hey, I’m gay, look at me, I’m kissing my boyfriend/girlfriend!”

I agree that people can go overboard…this sometimes involves bars, and lots of alcohol. This sometimes involves people who aren’t aware that they are grossing people out or just don’t care.

It’s not a statement that their sexual preference is the right one.

Otto, maybe you can clarify the point a little better, because nisosbar is making no sense to me.

So people that are heterosexual arent people? you come out with some weird comments you know that Nisosbar?
Otto, I think I understad what the point that were missing is, that is, if it is how some people dont like to see a gay couple holding hands or kissing in the street, and then they dont mind seeing a heterosexual couple doing the same thing in the street.

AS for how it effects me seeing either, it doesnt, and If people want to do this in public then so be it, its not like its against the law or anything! As long as there happy 🙂

Don’t you think this is a little bigoted? How you feel if I said:

“People” and “homosexuals” are two seperate groups.

Why make the distinction. It seems to me you have a specific problem with hetrosexuals.

> [@](#):

> Contrary to what you may think, folks, your heterosexual public display of affection is not “cute”, does not make you Jennifer Aniston and Matt LeBlanc, does not demonstrate your supremacy over those not heterosexual, and it does not even demonstrate that you are heterosexual.

What makes you think that men and women kissing in public think they are superior to non hetrosexuals? How did you make this leap of thinking?

> [@](#):

> It does demonstrate that you are an ignorant, insecure person, and it is NOT ATTRACTIVE

Some wild assumptions there. Cite?

> [@](#):
>
> , people who do this are typically the same ones who bash gays and are the biggest homophobes on Earth

So if a man kisses his wife in public then you think its likely that they will be found waiting outside a gay bar later, with a baseball bat? Can you explain your reasoning?

I think the OP might more usefully have titled this thread:

“Heterosexual **Homophobes** : Public Displays of Affection are unattractive when you do them, too,”

because this:

> [@](#):
>
> IMO, people who do this are typically the same ones who bash gays and are the biggest homophobes on Earth.

is as ignorant a sentence as i’ve seen uttered on these Boards for quite a while. Yes, PDAs are often silly and embarrassing, but not all silly and embarrassing people are homophobes.

Got it?

Homosexual PDAs do not irk me any more or any less than heterosexual ones.

It takes practice, but you get the hang of it over time, if you study carefully, do your homework, and … ahem… 😛

Heterosexuals ARE people, but so are homosexuals and bisexuals. This is kind of like the discussion about gay marriage: “everyone can get married, as long as it’s the opposite sex.” That is, for those of you who make out in front of other people because you “just don’t care,” ask yourselves if you still won’t care if two men are making out in front of you.

Gosh… thanks for diagramming your OP for us. At first I just thought it was an unusually retarded, snotty and smug little OP but now …well gosh with your explanation it’s even more smug than it appeared on first reading.
