Except for the racial bias he publicly spoke about right?

Explains why only 1 in 10 elected Republicans are women and why why have a whole 2 black Republicans in the 287 elected to federal office. Most blacks and women must just be incapable of holding those values?

This makes no sense at all.

Obviously, any two black Republicans account for 1.2 votes in Congress.

You could think of it that way too. I was thinking of two whole votes.

Would a bi-racial Republican have 0.8 votes?

We’ve come a long way, baby, but we aren’t there yet - I have no trouble believing that voters would prefer a male candidate to a female one based solely on gender.

The REpublican Party is the party of rich white men. The criticism has stung a bit and they are appointing blacks and women to cover it up. I saw an interview of black Repub who was at the Republican convention and he said the camera crews followed him around all day. There were and always have been very few blacks at the Repub Convention.
The GOP is not inclusive and never has been.

I think we need a weight lifting contest. Clearly who ever can bench press more would be more qualified for president.

Ten years as a Governor of one of our largest states.

I can’t see sexism here. Bachmann has been pilloried by the press, and Perry has been mostly coddled.

We had a hyper-religious Republican ex-governor of Texas as president for eight years. Worked out wonderfully well. Let’s do it again and see if God will pull our chestnuts out of the fire this time around.

Compared to Perry, Bush is practically agnostic.

For all his alleged fundamentalism, Bush’s actions largely suggest a pandering to a certain voter base. He doesn’t really seem super duper religious otherwise; I think he mostly picked up on the God stuff in his personal life because it helped him get over booze and nose candy, and hey, if it works for him, so be it. Frankly, though, one gets the sense he wouldn’t be too upset if he slept in and missed church. We’ve already had several references to Bush making statements behind the scenes that he’s not even really against gay rights, but just didn’t have the moral courage to not play the Evil Homos card to get votes.

But Perry is 100% serious about it. Bush played to fundie nutballs. Perry IS a fundie nutball.

I believe that Bush claimed that God wanted him to be the president and/or claimed that God led him to become president. That’s more than enough fundamental nut-job for me; God had nothing to do with it, or so I believe. But there were plenty of folk who did believe it and there are plenty of folk who do and/or will believe it of Perry. My personal opinion if that people who invoke god every time they open their mouths are nut jobs and I personally believe both Bush and Perry quality for that description.
If Bush didn’t truly believe what he was saying then he was a liar at worst and a hypocrite at best; I believe he was both and that he demonstrated that fact more than adequately.
I will agree that Perry seems to be worse than Bush in this category but that certainly isn’t an endorsement for either of them.

That’s what we care about. You guys are constantly whinging about how badly women, blacks and Hispanics are regarded and treated by Republicans, and in the meantime Republicans are electing and promoting and appointing them to high level political positions all over the place. Hell, even before she entered the race, you guys were carrying on about much of a Republican darling that idiotic nutjob Michelle Bachman was, and how much of indicator of Republican stupidity was the popularity of Sarah Palin, and now all of a sudden you’re reversing yourselves and whinging about how Republicans will never elect women.

You all believe yourselves expert on conservative motivations and conservative thinking and conservative goals, and you are wrong every. single. time. - as the first paragraph above amply demonstrates.

I can tell you why the republicans are happy to have women and ethnic minorities in their party: tokens. they need some pr to show that they aren’t mainly fat, rich, white dudes who could give a shit less if the country goes down the tubes as long as they’re making a buck off of it. We aren’t whining about the republicans or electing women or minorities though. We are whining about the fact that the republicans only seem to back candidates who are mildly retarded and zealously religious. Face it, if you are willing to ignore the religious freedoms and human rights of anyone who doesn’t agree with you, then you can be an excellent republican politician. Face it, H.L. Mencken may have been a bigoted, homophobic, misogynist, but he said some really wise things and NEVER RAN FOR OFFICE. one of the best things he said, which the republican party seems to go out of their way to prove is :“The worst government is often the most moral. One composed of cynics is often very tolerant and humane. But when fanatics are on top there is no limit to oppression.”

A few other asides for ya Starving…Republican politicians dont give a shit about morals. what they do give a shit about is the votes that talking loudly about those morals. face it, if they believed in christianity so deeply, they would remember that one of those 10 commandments has something to do with lying, and that dude Christ (which may, coincidentally, have been the guy who gave Christianity its name,) said ‘Judge not, lest you be judged.’ Oddly enough, republicans lie all the time, blame others for their screw ups (philosophically speaking blaming someone else for something you did is lying as well,) and wow, talk about judgmental. If it is a family friendly minority they are all about them, but the minute there is the slightest whiff of controversy suddenly that minority becomes unamerican and a threat to decent christian american values.

Once again I am force to leap to the defense of a person I disagree with fundamentally on just about everything. Except the willingness to cry ‘bullshit’.

The Republicans are no more sexist than Democrats in general, and if you all don’t know that, you’re living in an alternate reality. The TP may be a different story - I don’t know - but I have watch three better qualified women lose out to men in a primarily Democratic state, so, no, I am not buying that this is a Republican thing.

As for sexism, yeah, probably, but don’t you tell me that is some peculiarly Republican problem.

You do know that’s not [necessarily] true, don’t you? I don’t have the numbers, but I suspect that 4 per cent could have been distributed without effecting the outcome of the election. [Please don’t make me; after all, this isn’t GD, and I really don’t want to work that hard.]

As Democrats have twice the number of elected women as the Republicans, I think you saying both parties are equal would put you in a different reality.

Does the Democratic base tend to vote in a sexist manner? I would say yes, but in terms of equality they are leaps and bounds ahead of the Republicans
