Just let it ride. I want no more than to be left alone. Go see the in-laws. They expect a fuss. IMPO, (IM Personal O) Fathers day is a big hype. My kids & grand kids show me how they feel about me often enough that I am very satisfied with my position on that front. No need for any extra, & IMO forced, validation. I’m good. As far as gifts, let those ride as well. If I need or want something, I will get it on my own. No worries. If the kids WANT to visit, that is fine. Just do not force yourselves to see me because it is “Fathers Day”. ---

Nothing. I’m at a point in my life where I can better afford anything I might want than my kids. Even tho they are all doing fine, I’d prefer that they spend/save their $ for themselves and their families. Some acknowledgement would be nice, tho - a card, a brief phone call, or even just a text. When they were younger, I used to play golf quite a bit. Golf tees are always VERY pricey at the course, but you can get a big bag of them cheaply at WalMart or a golf store. At one point, I asked my kids to buy me golf tees for Father’s Day. It was great. I always had plenty of tees, and it only cost my kids a couple of bucks. ---

Yesterday, my wife said that she knew what to get me but it was at Costco and the Costco card is in my name (it’s my mom’s account + family member) so we have to drive to Costco on Sunday so we can buy it. But, hey, at least she remembered! I’m sure she’ll be receptive to picking up a steak or two while we’re there. ---

About a month ago, I was at Target and noticed that all the Game of Thrones seasons were on sale for $10-15 a season. My stepson had bought me S1 for Xmas a few years ago, and that’s all I’ve seen. So I wound up buying S2 - S6 (they were out of 7) and told my wife as I emptied the shopping bag when I got home “You don’t have to buy me anything for Father’s Day this year!” ---

Lately whenever a gift-giving occasion for my parents comes up, I find a restaurant in their vicinity that offers gift cards and I buy them one, enough to easily cover a dinner for two, usually $50-75. I figure they don’t need any more “stuff” and I like to try and get them out of the house, together. They tend to just sit around the house unless someone gives them a reason to go out. So far they seem to be really enjoying it. . ---

Note to previous self… Don’t put #8 in at 2nd base in the 5th it would have made the game much shorter and less stressful. I’d like my 32 YO stepdaughter to get a job, so my wife doesn’t have to sneak her a monthly support check. It would be like those sappy movies where the daughter wraps up a positive pregnancy test for her parents to open, except that I’d get a copy of her completed W-4. ---

For fathers’ day, I hope my children will ask me to teach them how to cook a favorite food that I made for them when they were children. I want them to tell me how a joke that I used to tell got a big laugh when they remembered it and told their friends. I want them to say that something I taught them helped them solve or at least outlast a problem in their lives. Most of all I want them to demonstrate that they are happy and healthy, and know that I helped with that, at least a little.
