The reason I asked I have seen a few shows where the gay character says something like she looks so good I am considering going back to women or something of that nature. So is there a famous or any woman for that matter that you have seen that looks so good she would turn you straight? And if yes, who? ---

While an interesting question, my first thought is that your thinking gay guys go gay because no women is good enough for em. Maybe “good enough” is the wrong phrase, but you get my point. And all it takes for them to “go straight” is to find the right woman. But that is just my reaction to the question. Another question is, is there any guys out there that would make you go gay? I sure can’t think of any. 🙂 ---

This question demonstrates a deep lack of understanding about homosexuality. My understanding (I’m heterosexual, by the way) is that people’s psyches are “hard-wired” to be attracted to one sex or the other (or in the case of bisexuals, both). This has nothing to do with abundance or lack of attractive people. It has everything to do with the kind of people an individual is attracted to. I’ll put that in simpler terms: Wildest Bill, _is there a famous or any **man** for that matter that you have seen that looks so good he would turn you **gay**?_ My **guess** , Bill, is that you have difficulty understanding the question, because you are a typical heterosexual male, and as such you are simply not attracted to other males. Even an extremely good-looking male has no effect on you, because you are a heterosexual male. That’s typical, okay, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But I hope that it illustrates to you that most gay men are attracted to other men, and if they see a woman, it is simply irrelevant how good-looking that woman is. ---

Yeah, as a reaction to those lines on TV, you’re asking a legitimate question, and I suppose my displeasure should be directed at those **writers** for perpetuating such stereotypes. Well, WildBill, unless you want to tell us that Brad Pitt makes you wish you were Jennifer Aniston, this question is entirely nonsensical. The character was _joking._ Example: I have been know to say that k.d.lang makes me wish I was a lesbian. This is a _joke,_ since I couldn’t possibly afford the sex reassignment, and the thought makes me gag–and not in a good way 😉 . ---

Putting my original feelings about the question aside since they may be unfounded, I will say that my gay male roommate JOKINGLY said something similar about Renee Russo after seeing The Thomas Crowne Affair. ---

Reminds me of a line Sam Malone said on “Cheers”, when he was bragging to Diane that he’d resisted the temptation of another woman (and, of course, overlooking Diane’s ire that he was simply _with_ another woman) (paraphrased): “She was gorgeous. I agree. Esprix already admitted he’d rather have sex with Claudia Schiffer than ::shudder:: Ernest Borgnine. The other thing, and I shudder to admit this: An old girlfriend of mine thought Brad Pitt was “just so hot” in Legends of the Fall. It was Brad Pitt this, Brad Pitt that. Even during innapropriate moments. It really ticked me off. I started to hate Brad Pitt. I started to hate that smug little pretty-boy so much I wanted to hurt him. I wanted to hurt him bad. I wanted to beat him up and perform a hateful sexual act upon him without the benefit of lubrication. Of course this would ruin him for life. He would cry anytime he was forced into the company of another man. No woman would respect him. He’s probably get fat and do drugs and become an empty shell of a man. Than my girlfriend wouldn’t think he was so hot any more! Would she?!? Would she?!? ::ahem:: Anyway, we broke up and I’m all better now. Still, there’s something about Brad Pitt that fills me with a sadistic sexual rage. Hmmm. Maybe I shouldn’t have shared that. Heh. heh. heh. Just kidding. really. 😉 ---

Closest thing I can come to that is saying “If I were lesbian, she’s who I’d go for…” which I use mostly to refer to one of my good friends. Hum… and Angelina Jolie. ---

Your choice of the phrase “turn you straight” bothers me. I’m gay, but I will not rule out the possibility of a heterosexual encounter. (Please don’t tell **Cajun Man** I said this.) One encounter does not an orientation make. The question has come up before, but it was addressed not only to gays. There was [Who Wouldja Do, If You Swing The Other Way?](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=19867), in which I said RuPaul as a goof, and Jeri Ryan as a serious answer. There was also [Only Bisexuals Can’t Play…](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=11500) My favorite post from that thread (after someone said “Leonard diCaprio, I suppose…”) is **TennHippie** ’s second reply “Oh, DiCaprio, sure! I thought I had to pick a MAN. Brad Pitt, too, then…” “As a gay man, are there ANY women you find sexually attractive?” Sure. The answer to the original question, as worded, is no one. (Although, if Ernest Borgnine were the only man left, _that_ would “turn me straight”.) ---

Man, some people get so touchy. It was just a goof ball question. The poster could either say “yes” and name the person or “no” they would not go straight for anybody. See I will show you what I mean. No satan there is not man out there that would turn me gay. I just find chicks just way too attractive. NOW just my wife(I find this a lot cheaper. 😃 ) But in all fairness I have always wondered in the back of my mind that maybe one of the reasons that some dudes are gay is because of some girl that was so mean it turned the guy against women.
