“GUY” was very common when I grew up, but it went out by the mid 70s. At least for me. Of course I knew two people named “Guy.” And not the French “Gee” (with a hard G) but Guy like the word. I recall in high school we read short stories by [Guy de Maupassant](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_de_Maupassant) ---

I’ve heard “Guy” both ways for the name, but Gee was the more common french one. I didn’t know a “Guy” sounding like “buy” until the Food network show “Diners, Drive ins, and dives” with Guy as the host. ---

I’ve only ever used it in aggressive tone, only used with strangers that I already dislike. As in, “back the fuck up, guy” ---
