Hey, guys, I'm in France!

Thanks Matt. But what I meant was the basic lay-out being different. I have (and I assume you all have too) a QWERTY keyboard, as identified by the first five characters starting from top-left. I believe the French keyboard is AWERTY or something. There are some minor (but very annoying, no doubt) differences. Maybe Sani can confirm this?

The last time I was in France, I used an internet café, and I’m quite sure I would have noticed if the keyboard had been weird.

Gotta love the Internet Check out this page to see what I mean. AWERTY: I knew it existed!

Matt, FWIW: I think it’s perfectly logical for the two layouts to coexist in France. And in an Internet café, it would only seem logical to find a QWERTY keyboard, what with all the foreign users and all.

When I was in Germany, they had a wacky keyboard. For whatever it’s worth.

Sani, the natives love Jerry Lewis and goose pate.

Be careful.

I used to live in France and the keyboards were not QWERTY. The letters are rearranged to function the same as a QWERTY (i.e., the letters used together most often in the alphabet are situated on the keyboard the farthest away from each other), but since the letters used together most often in French aren’t the same letters used together most often in English, the keyboard is different.

See? Just as I told you, Sani dear. You’re having a wonderful time and managing with the language. Now, quit reading this and go send me a postcard, bitch! ahem I mean, if it’s not too much trouble, don’t forget you promised me one…

It’s on it’s way, dear.

Sorry I haven’t chevked in sooner – they’ve kept me extremely busy, with very little time to sit at the computer. We never made it to the cinema, it was too crowded and there weren’t any tickets left. The Chateau d’If was nice. I’m slowly losing my command of the english language, but my french isn’t getting much better, either; I’m just forgetting how to communicate. Coldie’s right, and I’ll take a picture (weird as it may seem) of the keyboard as proof. I don’t know when I can check in again, but I’ll scan some pictures and put my journal up on my home page when I get home, probably around the 29th (give me a chance to sleep, please). Hopefully I’ll talk to all of you again in a couple of days.

Aha!! I told y’all them frog keyboards were weird

Take THAT, MoosieGirl! Just goes to show that Quebec Stuff ain’t automatically French Stuff

Sans, I’m glad yer having a swell time! I love France, have been twice, and never encountered the fabled language barrier. I just learned to say in my best broken, “I’m sorry I can’t parle better”. The French have the most delectable PEARS. Be sure to eat one for me !

Allons le bon temps roulez!
