We aren’t. At least in PA women can have the child and absolve all obligations by dropping it off at a hospital.

Not if the father tells a court he wants custody of it before it’s born.

If a dad wants the kid, all he has to do is tell a court before it’s born that he wants to take custody and custody will be awarded. The safe haven laws are designed to prevent neonaticide. If the child is born in a hospital and the father is present, the father can take custody of the child. With SH laws, there is no father claiming custody.

Hypothetical Mom gives birth and drops off the baby at the hospital. Hospital has no idea whos baby this is. There is no way for them to inform the father. Mommy gives birth and gets off without any responsibility even if the father wanted the child.

That’s why the father has to go to court before it’s born and say he wants the kid. Then if she drops the kid off, he will already be on record as the lawful custodial parent and he can still retrieve custody.

I’m with **catsix** on this.

Yeah, **hauss** is a pussy. All men who abandon their children are. The world would be better off if he got a vasectomy.

So morally yeah, he sucks. Legally, though, we’ve got a double standard. Men become parents when they have sex, but women don’t become parents until they have the baby? Men should “take responsibility” for their actions, but women get a way out? It’s okay for a mother to kill her baby just because she doesn’t want it, but it’s not okay for a man to refuse responsibility?

When a woman gets knocked up, she can do whatever she wants. If she decides to keep the kid, the father’s going to get hit with 18 years of child support. If she decides to kill it, tough shit for him. If she gives it up, too bad. The guy will do well to even know about the adoption.

Why should only women get to shirk responsibility with no concern for others? Equality means everyone gets to act cold and callous, not just one gender.

You’re the only one who is claiming that this is the case, and while I agree that it would be a _nice_ system, to me that conflicts with other posters’ claims that it can be totally anonymous.

I have no reason to doubt the other posters, but due to the dubiousness of your claim and the fact that you are posting it, I would like to see some proof that it works that way in actuality.

> It’s her body, her choice. She gets to make her choice a little later than the man. So what? That’s the way it goes. It doesn’t change the fact that the man is taking a conscious risk everytime he puts his dork in a vagina.

By conciously making the decision to incubate the fetus for nine months, she is taking an infinitely larger role in the creation of the child. The mans role only requires a matter of minutes, perhaps even less.

_She_ has the power. And with great power should come great responsibility.

You may be a total fucking asshole who loves to snipe at me (and in my opinion, you are), but that doesn’t make me the kind of whiny little pussy who runs to teacher when a bully shows up.

There’s an ignore feature. You have the capability to use it if my posts bother you so god damned much.

I don’t know about in the US, but in Hamburg, Germany they’ve got a kind of mail slot set up. The kid goes through the slot onto a little cot, and a buzzer sounds at the nurse’s station to alert them that someone has dropped off a kid. They don’t even _see_ who dropped it off.

I wonder what would happen if a father dropped off a baby at one of these places unbeknownest to the mother. I get the feeling we would see a pit thread or two about that.

Under the system advocated by some people on this board she has **all** the responsibility. She has to be responsible for birth control, gestation and raising the child.

That’s not fair at all.

Like **yosemite** said we’re giving men no reason whatsoever to be responsible grown-ups.

What incentive would he have, if he knows that his “birth control” is merely saying “I don’t want it”? _He_ won’t have a kid that _he_ is 50% financially responsible for. All he has to say is “I don’t want it.” _That_ would be his “birth control.”

In your world there’s no incentive for him to use it.

If he can just walk away from any financial obligation to the child, why should he bother to interfere with his pleasure by using a condom?

I love men. I really, really do. They’re wonderful people. I swear.

To elaborate on that, say my friend plants an acorn near my house. If I let it grow into a tree, and the tree falls on my house causing damage, should my friend have to pay half the bill?

While the baby drop off might be anonymous, if the child is the subject of a court action, the mother can not take advantage of this unless she is willing to be jailed indefinitely for contempt of court. Don’t you guys know basic civics?
